Topper awning for slide out..?

New to a slide-out on my travel trailer. Thinking about the pro's and con's about a awning over the single 12 ft. slide out. I understand it keeps debris off while camping, and could extend the life of the seals. Not sure how it will react to wind. (flapping) But... if I am able to clean the top of the slide out with a broom, then again spray it off when I return home. I could save somewhere around $ 600.00.

I love the slide topper, one of the best investments I made. No more climbing up on top of the unit each and every time I have to pull in the slide and it keeps the rain off. Sometimes the slide would leak alittle when it was in. With the topper it never leaks.

went to newfoundland 2 yrs ago ,with really high winds , and the topper flapped in the wind a bit. I used the awning tiedown(seat belt mat'l)to stop some of the noise . held up great. you will not get any stronger winds than they get..

I've got 'em on both of my slides. I haven't noticed a lot of problems in the wind, and I've been through a couple of Jim Dandy thunderstorms in it. The main thing I've noticed is that water tends to pool on the larger slide awning. I usually just take a broom handle and push up underneath the awning fabric to allow the pooled water to run off when it stops raining. Otherwise, I love them.

Taking the rig for toppers tomorrow. All three slides Pretty sure I will be happy

Toppers are only about $300-$350 when factory installed, which is how I get them. We use our fiver about 120 days per year. In hot weather it helps keep the rv cooler since the slide out roof has minimal insulation. Under snow and ice conditions it keeps the roof from becoming iced over, just close the slide out and everything just drops off the topper fabric. And under more typical conditions, the topper does keep debris off the roof.

Downside is that the larger toppers can flap in high winds and water will pool in the center. I can live with both. Dust does collect on the slide out roof and can't be cleaned with the slide out open. Some people do nothing, but once a year, I clean the dust off from the inside with the slide out closed using a step stool, shallow water pail and a sponge.
