We are looking at a 2013 Zinger BH but are worried about the towing capacity of out truck. The Zinger is just shy of 8400lbs dry and a tongue weight of 1002. We would be towing it with a 2000 Silverado 2500 2wd extended cab with a 8ft bed and 6.0 and a 4:10 rear. Everyplace I look I see conflicting info of the towing capacities of this truck. Some say 11000 max others say 10000 max. I will be upgrading the hitch and using a weight distributing hitch. Think we will be ok?

Here is the towing guide from 2000, if you have the 2500HD, w/ 4.10 and factory tow pkg then you are all set at 11,200lbs. If you don't have the factory tow pkg, then it look like the low 9K range.

Ok mine is the 2500 LD with the 410 and heavy duty tow package so we should be ok..thanks

No problem, make sure you have a robust hitch setup with distribution and sway. The Equalizer is a popular option, that's a big trailer. We almost bought one, the as built with options and propane/battery is near 9k.

My 2 cents...I had a 2001 2500HD ext cab, with 4x4, 6.0L and 4.10 for my 10k loaded 5er and the truck did very well on normal roads. I got 10-11MPH and was able to drive in OD most of the time. The issue was on any hills (they did not have to be steep) and the truck really worked to get up. On the longer hills I had to drop to 3rd and sometimes 2nd to get up and over. Other than that the truck did fine.

To figure out your actual towing capabilities you need to load your truck up with all occupants, pets and gear you plan to have in it when towing and the go weigh it with a full tank of fuel at your local truck scales.(Weigh each axle individually as you will want that info later). Take the total vehicle weight obtained and subtract it from the TV gvwr to get your adjusted payload. Take the total scaled weight and subtract it from the TV gcwr to get your adjusted towing capacity.Understand that not only does the loaded TT weight need to be less than the adjusted towing capacity but the loaded tongue weight needs to be less than the available payload. (If this were a 5er then the pin weight needs to be under payload and under max RAWR).
The loaded tongue weight will be 13-15% of the loaded TT weight. Remember you will never haul a dry or empty TT. In fact the weight as it leaves the dealer is usually a couple hundred lbs heavier than dry brochure weight due to dealer adding propane tanks, battery etc. most people tend to add between 1000-1500 lbs gear/stuff to a TT. Some add more, some less. I know for our family of 3 we added 1500 lbs into our TT. If you don't know how much you will add, then you ay want to use gvwr for your calculations to give you a safety net.For the 33bh you are looking at 1100 lbs tongue weight (13% of dry) up to 1674 lbs (15% of gvwr). What is your available payload? Can your truck handle this? Hint you probably will not load 2700 lbs into the TT.How comfortable are you with your margins and can you afford to upgrade your TV if it becomes necessary? Hope this helps. Good luck.

The tongue weight is 1002lbs, do you think i could get away using a weight dist hitch with a 10,000 lbs pull weight and a 1000lbs tongue weight since I already have one?

If it were mine I'd ensure the bars are rated for 1400 lbs. The 1002 is BEFORE the dual propane tanks and marine battery, ontop of whatever you store forward of the axles in the bedroom, pass thru storage, etc.

X2. See above for calculating actual tongue weight instead of dry tongue weight.Dry tongue weight is useless to you. Edited by: anaro
