270BH or 28BH Fifth Wheel

Hello Everyone,

I have been casually looking for a 5th wheel for a few years now. My wife and I originally liked the 28BH Reserve fifth wheel. The front nose silde-out is something that we had never seen, and were very curious. We went to a local dealer and looked at one, but it sold before we could do anything.

Well, a local dealer now has the 270BH Super Lite fifth wheel, and it basically has the same layout as the 28BH, just without the front slide.

I looked at the brochure, and I can see that you get a little more ammenities with the Reserve unit, but other than that, would anyone be able to provide any more differences?

Any opinions about which one you feel would be better, and why, would be appreciated. Especially if we can hear from people that have either one.

Thanks in advance.

Jeremy

Jeremy, I bought a SF270BH in December. I haven't had an opportunity to take it anywhere yet, but I'm pleased with it. I was interested in the SF28BH, but the dealer only had the SF270BH and a SF32RL, which also has the front slide. The bunks were more important to me than the wardrobe space in the 32RL. Besides the front slide, the other differences I am aware of are the exterior door in the bathroom, electric fireplace, sofa bed instead of jack knife couch and a slightly larger pantry.

My daughter is buying the 270 BH fifth wheel without the front slide because the other one exceeds her towing and box weight limitations. The only downer is the fact that you have to open the table/couch slide to open the bathroom door. This could be annoying when on the road and making a pit stop. The outside bathroom door would definitely be an asset in that situation!

About the bathroom door , make it open from the left side instead of the right side. Have the hinge on the right side. You will have to flip the door upsidedown ,with the knob on the left. Put left frame on the right and right frame on the left so you can use the same holes and it will look factory.
I reversed mine on a 25rb and works great , no more need to open slide on the road or if you camp overnight where you cannot open the slide.

Thanks - interesting fix.

I looked at the floor plan for your trailer online. Do you leave your bathroom door open while on the road? If so, do you fasten it in some way so it does not flap?

Astrid.

Loneoak...on mine I just reversed the door and frames so the door opens to the inside and my handle is on the right. it closes perfect and I just put a pad on the toilet so it does not make noise as it hits it. Your plan would not allow the door to open in cause of the toilet.so yours would need the door to flip upside down.

O.K.,I understand. The 270 BH fifth wheel has a slightly different layout in the bathroom, but if there is a way to tie the door open up against the bunks (without making frame and door changes), then one could go into the bathroom, but without closing the door. A bungie cord around the door handle with something attached to the bunk would do the trick.

Astrid.

Wayne, Do you have plenty of room to open the door and then shut the door once inside the bathroom? I have been trying to see it in my mind and it seems it may be awkward to negotiate around.

We purchased a 32RL 5th wheel with the push-out front slide in November. Used it 3 times since and couldn't be happier with our choice. We replaced the supplied queen mattress and installed a full size queen mattress which still allows us 30" of walk around room at the foot of the bed. You are correct about the amenities, it has just about everything we want or need. Found one minor issue with the trailer which I was able to fix. Cannot comment about the 270BH 5th wheel.
