Adding 12V Outlet

I have recently installed air bags under my truck to help with the ride while towing my Sunset Trail 270BH. The cord for the inflator I have is not long enough to reach the stems when plugged into the truck. What I would like to do is install a 12V outlet on the battery box of the trailer to plug the inflator into when required. I have found a 12V socket that is pre-wired with connectors for battery terminals. My question is can I mount this socket to the battery box and wire it up direct to the battery? Do I need to install an in-line fuse for this sort of application?

I would use a fuse that is capable of protecting the size of the wire you use.

If you are just interested in plugging it in before you leave, you can try something like this Amazon.com: Reese Towpower 74681 Dual Port 12 Volt Power Adapter: Automotive. It plugs into the trailer connector on your truck.
