Well, it is plural as in GRITS. Or, it's POLENTA in modern day America and is perceived as a sign of cachet, not poverty. If you’re not self-conscious about your cooking, go with grits. If you want to impress someone, make a pot of polenta.

Wow! I've been in the North way, way to long when they start renaming my grits! It's my in-laws (born, raised and never been South) that said, "what's a grit"....LOL.. I laughed soooo hard! Then my Mom-in-law tried to cook up some instant grits one day...what a disaster! Nothing but lumps.

Dang Gcross that's a nice looking rig. I was shocked to see it fit in your short bed 1500 with so much room between trailer and rear window. How well does the 1/2 ton handle the weight?

Safe travels and happy camping.

I beg to differ. BBQ in Texas means beef brisket

The truck pulls this rig beautifully! We did add air bags to the suspension but that's all the mods. The camper only weighs 8712 lbs when empty and our truck is rated at 10k. It has the 3.92 gears, tow package and a 5.7 liter hemi. We've been up and down these VT mountians all the way to Maine with never a problem.

Welcome back to the south, all you prodigals who have left and are returning. What brings you guys back south?

We are enjoying mid 60's in the campground right now, but is it going to get down close to freezing tonight and for the next couple of days. But, having a great time.

Love my grits... I have some just about every morning from the cafeteria at work, which are surprisingly good.

Yep, agree about the Texas brisket. Can't get that in Georgia, or at least I haven't found any that compares with what I have when I go to Kerrville, Texas every year.

Besides the fact that we haven't seen a really good summer in about 10 years...I miss being home in the South. That and the fact that I got a REALLY good job offer from a company, doing the same thing I've been doing for years never hurts.

We actually aren't leaving until Thursday. Should be right behind the clean up on the way down. Keeping a close eye on it though.

Here is extreme Southern IL is 20 degrees. Wind is 26 mph with gust to 40. It is rippin pretty good out there. Snowing currently but not supposed to amount to much. High profile vehicle warning out. I know I would not want to tow in it!

Oh wow, I thought it would be like 10-12K in weight. Just never saw a bigger one like that on a 1/2 ton. That's awesome. Enjoy your trip.

I was just as doubtful as everyone else when we went and looked at it at the dealer. They kept telling me that our 1/2 ton would pull it just fine and that the camper was being marketed as "1/2 ton towable". So the dealer had us hook up and we went for a good 35 minute ride. I was amazed at how easy it pulled and no "squat" on the truck. Sold me right there! But now that we've added our gear, clothes and all the goodies...I noticed on our last trip that the truck was squatting some. So we went back to the dealer and they added the air bags and now it's just like it's empty again.
Anyone out there doubting if their 1/2 ton would pull and be comfortable under one of these should ask the dealer about a test pull. Then you can avoid all the doubts and feel for yourself. I honestly can't speak for other makes, but this Dodge 1500 with the 3.92 gears, hemi and rated capacity of 10k will do just fine on these models.

I do however suggest getting the dealer to throw in the airbags! Work whatever kind of deal you can during the purchase and then you won't have to worry about it down the road.

For us half ton guys the power is fine, its our load ratings, GAWR, and brake size that limits us. Again sweet rig, I'm envious

Hi Gcross. Hope you have a safe and fun trip. We did end up buying the same SF32RL and love it. We took it out this past weekend for the first time to a local park to check everything out. What hitch do you have? With the Superglide hitch we are able to do 90 degree turns easily. The air bags helped quite a bit with sag.

I weighted everything at the scales and that has made me a little concerned. I did notice that the advertised pin weight is 1,898 lbs before we bought it but at the time I was only concentrating on the max towing capacity. My rear truck axle weighs 4,920 lbs with the trailer and the GAWR on our truck is 3,900 lbs. Our loaded pin weight is 2,020 lbs. I did upgrade the stock P rated tires to E rated tires hoping this could help. I am not too concerned about the brakes with the electric trailer brakes and braking performance seams great. We are close to but under GCWR and Max trailer towing capacity of 10K but my concern is mainly the GAWR and having rear axle failure in the future. I have been looking at ways to possibly upgrade the rear axle or a new 2500 might be needed.
Phil

Not sure why yours is so heavy on the nose...When we did our weights, fully loaded up, ours checked in at 3825 lbs. We did do a lot of adjusting as far as where we put things within the camper. Most all of our moveable weight is behind the kitchen island and on the couch. I wouldn't think that makes too much difference, but you never know.

catflip- where are you on payload? I'm betting you are over on payload as well as gawr. I would be worried about being over gawr by 1000 lbs. Upgrading the axle won't completely upgrade your truck to get it within specs. There are more factors than just P vs E tires and axle capacity at play. I have seen many many threads about axle upgrades and they all end the same way. The expense of the axle upgrade is usually not really justifiable and most end up just going for the new or used truck purchase. I have been in a situation w/ a TT and my old armada where I was over on payload (and I don't have the specs any more but I believe on GAWR as well). I did all kinds of upgrades to the armada and it ended up being a waste of money. I gave up after not having enough truck to control the trailer coming down a 7% grade. After that I swore to always remain within vehicle specs. I also learned it was better to take the hit on the vehicle instead of investing more money in the vehicle and then still taking the hit on the vehicle. Good luck in whatever decision you make, as it is ultimately you who will have to live with the choice.
