Exclamation Axle issues

Greetings fellow RV'ers.

My wife and I recently retired and moved to Prescott, AZ from Colorado.

Once we arrived, we had our Sunset Trail (RE30), de-winterized. During this process the tech indicated that our left rear tire was wearing badly. All three other tires are fine. Since our RV is only a year old, we thought it may be an axle problem.

Had anyone else had similar issues?

Thanks, and safe travels.

Do you remember backing into anything with that tire, or bumping it on a curb or something?

If it's just the one tire that's wearing, I wonder if the spindle is maybe the problem. Could have gotten bent, or welded in crooked.

Might be axle alignment.

Axle issues

Don't remember rubbing up against anything and it's just the outside edge of the tread that is wearing. Thanks for your input. Appreciate it!

axle issues

We purchased a 2014 sst 250rb last Sept., took a few local trips of approx.200 mi ea as a break in. In Oct. we left Fl for Mt & back for approx. 5200mi. I check tire pressure each morning & at each stop as well as temperature. After a total of 6k mi we found the right(passenger side) rear tire has worn 6/32" on the outside rig. Took it to the selling dealer & he checked & advised either the spindle was out of allingment or the axle was bent. We took 20+ pics of the tire-wheel & axle & contacted Crossroads Cust serv(Dave Underwood-csr).
After much discussion with the axle mfgr. they sent a new axle & tire to our dealer who replaced them.
Havent had a long trip yet but so far with another 1k miles we are see no signs of excell wear. All of the other points mentioned could be the problem but it was too close to our problem for me to let our experience ride.

Good luck & let us know the out come.

Same prob with mine , needed 2 new axles(bigger axles like they are putting on all 2014's now)and heavier springs . Had one spindle welded crooked too,had to rotate 2 tires on our summer vacation so tire wouldn't blow on the way home Orig axles were 3500 # and new are 4400# . My trailer is a 2013. What yr is yours?

Axle problems

Thanks to all for some great feedback. Your insights are very appreciated and helpful.

We have a 2013 -30RE, so maybe the 2014 axles are built better.

We hope to take it in this week on warranty and we are hoping for a quick solution to our problem.

We will mention to the dealer your recommendations.

Again, thank you all for your help.

I will give another insight. I had a similar issue with the RR tire wearing quickly on the outside. I nursed it along by rotating it out and the problem did not occur on the new RR tire so I replaced the one wearing badly and the issue went away. I assume it was just a bad tire.

I'm having problems also. My rear bearings seized with less than 5000 miles. Every mechanic I show my trailer with the bald inner tire treads on my rear axle tells me the axle is overloaded. I only have a couple of towels and an extra sheet and blanket in the bathroom cabinets. The rest are empty. My ST25RB is sitting in the dealership while they talk with crossroads about why this is happening and who is responsible for the repairs needed. The more I read about others having the same problem the more I think it may be a design flaw. I'm filing a complaint with the Pa. Attorney General if they refuse to help.

2012 ST25RB. Yesterday afternoon my dealer called. CR is finally sending them 2 heavier axles and springs to install in my camper. It's really a shame that I had to work as hard as I did to get what I think is a design problem fixed. It's a safety issue that the mfg. should address without a customer having to show up at RV shows to warn others about before investing a lot of hard earned money into their product.

Is it still under warranty? I just dropped mine off at dealer yesterday. Dealer didn't act to confident that would crossroads would take care of it since its out of warranty. Should here something by the middle of next week.

My problem started at 14 months old with under 500 miles on trailer. Originally CR told me I voided the warranty by not repacking my wheel bearings after 12 months. After I attended the next RV show in my area with pics. And copies of receipts to show prospective customers about a design problem they started to change their position. I told them I will go to every RV show that I can drive to let everybody know. I also said I will put a sign out in front of my trailer every time I go camping which is pretty much every weekend from April through November.

I would pm papakcamper and ask him for the details on how his dealer got Crossroads to deal with his problem. Maybe he can pm you his phone so you could talk to papakcamper direct. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

The best way to "inspire" any mfg. to do the right thing is to inform others without any exaggeration. I brought receipts , pictures and copies of all emails between CR and myself to an RV show. I identified myself ( so CR would know who I am) and I made it known that I wasn't going to stop at 1 show. Even the slightest chance they lose just one sale has to make them think it's more cost efficient to just put out a couple thousand dollars and fix their mistake. They called me 2 days after the first show I went to.

OK guys all this talk about axles has me worried! I am in the same year (2012) the issues are being reported.
Is this an issue that Crossroads has recognized?
Do the axles have to show a failure to get them replaced or are they replacing all axles like a recall as they are clearly undersized?
We don't put a lot of miles on and I am worried about the issues you are having in a year or 2!

They sent me my new 2014 Zinger with 3 15" wheels on it and 1 14" wheel on it. Since they came to my house and replaced the 14 " wheel, I have noticed a little wobble only on that wheel. They did deliver the trailer from IN to MA with a wrong size wheel on the unit. Its the RR wheel. 2 trips and still wobbles. Keeping an eye on the wear and spindle temps while on the road. 200 miles so far.

Did you balance the new wheel? You should have them all done. I always balance trailer wheels ...one time the rim needed replacing as it needed way to many weights and couldn't be balanced properly, they are all made in china.
