Bathroom Vent Lid

We have a 2011 Sunset Trail 26BH. The manual crank gear in the vent is stripped ( won't go up or down) Can a person replace it from the inside somehow without going on the roof and removing the cover etc.? I cannot see where Or how I can remove the screen to get at the part! Thanks for any help.

What brand of fan? I have Maxx Air & to replace the "operator" you must go on the roof. Loosen the arms by opening lid fully & slide the arms out of the slots & remove a couple screws, reverse for reassembly, & done.
Also on my fans there are 4 tabs that you turn 90-180 degrees to remove the screen. My last SOB had Fantastic fans & if I recall the screens just snapped on, never had the operator quit.

You probably have the basic 4 " fan in the opening . Just unscrew the handle and remove ,then take out the 4 screws that holds the cover on . There will be 2 screws that hold the screen on . You are then wide open to check the mechanism . I think it is held in with one screw/ bolt . All from the inside . Clean out spider webs while you are at it .

Thank-you both for the replies. Harley...great advice - I had some problems putting the screen back up but got it done. It helps to have the right tool(s)!

We just bought a 2014 32RL and I was getting on here to post the same exact question, our bathroom fan vent is also stripped out. Please let me know what you find as far as parts, as I will also need whatever your investigation reveals?

Thanks!

Well, I got access to my Vent this morning and the good news is that the only thing stripped out is the Black turn handle, the mechanism is fine. The bad news is now I have to find somewhere that only sells the handle.

Cottonakin, are you saying that the splines inside the black handle are stripped?

Yes, the handle is my problem. We just bought this camper and a previous owner had switched the original crank for "Barker Knobs", https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The actual vent control arm doesn't have splines and instead has a "flat" area on one side. I have re-ordered new Barker knobs and I hope that they are going to do the trick, if not, I will return them and look for something else.

Any trailer place sells either the black plastic round knob or the light metal crank style knobs ..just head to one if they are near you and look . That is why I did.

Well, just as I suspected, the Barker knob is not molded with the flat spot on one side BUT I went ahead and tried installing it on the vent mechanism shaft anyway. It is a fairly tight "friction" fit (held in place by the bottom screw) and after opening and closing the vent several times seems to be working. I'll probably end up getting the proper handle if this doesn't continue to work but for now, it's good to go.

Thanks for all of the replies!
