Burned Wires

Here is what happened to me this weekend. It a 2018 291RK. Happened when I tried to turn on my main cabin AC. It wouldn't work but the AC in the bedroom would.

Wow. You're lucky you didn't have a large fire. Repairable by you or must you take it to a repair shop. Should be covered under insurance.

Good luck.

Wow. I’m so sorry this happened. I know your sick to your stomach. Did it trip any breakers? Let us know what happens with insurance.

I would guess it was either a loose connection or low campground voltage that caused this.
My first avenue would be warranty and you may even want to get a lawyer involved if you meet resistance. Second avenue would be insurance; depending on the cause, yours or the campground's.

Did you have a surge protector?

Was this at an RV park or home? Looks like the power source may have been screwed up such as power applied on what is suppose to be the neutral line but I could easily be wrong.

The dealer told me it was a loose neutral wire from the main harness. They are replacing the converter and the breaker box. Should be ready for pickup by saturday.

There are multiple types of surge protectors and the simple one that most people have $100-$150 would not prevent this or any voltage variances from happening.

Which is recommended for over-all peace of mind? I ask because sometimes the most expensive doesn't represent what is necessary, and bells and whistles can render a device useless ahead of it's time and complicated plus some options a person might never look at ever. Long statement short, less is better but still best overall.. .

A surge protector would have done nothing for this problem. It was an improper connection with the main neutral wire. It was done at the factory and wasn't discovered during their quality inspections.

Sorry to say but I do not think there is any quality inspections at the factory . Plus the assembliers are not electriciana and I highly doubt anyone checks electrical connections . We should all probably pull things apart and check tightness of wires ourselves...to bad the companies are so slack on these things that home builders have to do properly .

Sorry for your experience however a good cautionary tale for others.

Good news its still under warranty and everyone is safe.

We're on our second sunset trail and both units left the showroom with loose connections in the receptacle.

On our maiden voyage to Yellowstone on our first trailer, we were 1 night into a 21 night trip and didn't have 110 to either the micro or AC. Fortunately, we were in southern MN, so good local food and cool breezy weather let me delay the investigation till the next morning.

I started giggling the extension cord and it was coming on and off...another fine, upstanding crossroads sunset trail owner a few sites down noticed and asked me "Hey, new trailer?"...I said yep ..he immediately said.."check your receptacle connections"...sure 'nuff...one of the hots were loose. saved me hours of aggravation..would of never thought the electrical work would be that sloppy...I immediately thought after fixing it..hey this could really cause a fire..

Decided to pull my cover off today and check my connections. One main positive wire and main neutral wire was very very loose also several smaller wires also needed to be tightened.
