Thumbs up Buying a 31SS

We're looking into buying a Maple Country 31SS - from what I gather this is the same as the Sunset Trail 31SS but rebranded for a regional dealer.

We are 95% sure this is the TT for us, the features and design are second to nothing else we have looked at, at similar prices.

I have read some of the posts about cap fading and slides leaking, how common are these problems? Are there any other "common" issues we should watch out for?

Any tips and tricks for new RV owners?

Thanks!

Your spot on, you cannot find a trailer with a better layout, dry weight, or amenities for the money. In my opinion, that layout was in our top 3 when we were looking. We opted for a lighter trailer after crunching tow numbers.

The cap issue is addressed in several places on the forum if you search for it.

As far as issues, I've not seen anything overwhelming in the forum on the sunset trails, other than comments on the cap.

You might want to drop Maxable a line. A fellow Canadian that just bought a 31SS and posted an option to apply a 3M protector tape to the front. Awesome idea IMHO.

I have a 2013 300BH and the LED strip on the awnings have tendency to putter out after a few uses, but they've shipped replacements under warranty.

So we've been told the 31SS is discontinued, theres still some out there on dealer lots but they are few and far between. We like the quad bunks in the back, the sink island as it gives much more counter space, and the large pantry.

The 29SS is close but we lose out on the island and the larger pantry right in the kitchen.

Any idea why they killed off the 31SS? It has basically everything we want and every other trailer we have been in we've basically compared to it and none have had as many features.

We were thinking of waiting until next year to buy, but if the 31SS is gone we may have to jump on one now.

My thoughts are these RV companies try new floor plans and if they're not flying off the lot, they kill them off to save production costs.

They're both nice trailers. We have a 300BH and love it, but you do lose the island switching to similar models.

What about a 33BD??

You can still get one, seems to be a few around. Just go get it.

I have a two year old 29SS and the dark cap and all the decals still look new. I haven't had any problems with the slides leaking either.

This is a nice trailer too but unfortunately the almost 8000lb (extra 1200lbs over the 31ss) dry weight pretty much eliminate this right off the bat for us. We'll be towing with a 1/2 ton with a 9500lb tow rating and would likely be way too close or over once its loaded up.

We may have to. One thing we've noticed - the one in your link included - is that burgandy/red interior color seems to be the most common. Unfortunately neither my wife or myself care for that color scheme which makes it even harder to find.

Good to hear. I noticed the 2015 29SS has an extra slide-out closet in the bedroom, doesn't seem to be changed anywhere else.

Just my two cents, but we looked at this unit and the 300BH. We also have a 1/2 ton tow vehicle.

For us, it came down to whether we wanted the extra space in the kitchen or kids bedroom. We thought for the added weight of the slide, we'd rather the kids had more room and based on a years worth of camping,we're glad we did.

Just something to consider.
