Question Buying a Grand Reserve SS26SI... suggestions

We just made a verbal agreement to purchase a new Sunset Trail, Grand Reserve, SS26SI. Upgrading from our 2013 ST 20CK Reserve.

Tomorrow we do the paperwork, so I'm wondering for those who own this trailer, or another grand reserve ...

1. What options would you add?
2. What would you have ordered differently?
3. How does the auto leveling work / function - good, not so good, etc. (curious about that)?
4. Did you add the backup camera? which model? How does it work for you?

I know, lots of questions, but if you don't mind sharing your thoughts, I'd appreciate it. Thanks Mike

Mike,

If your talking about dealer options, the one option I was glad I opted for that you cannot (easily) add later was the 50 amp upgrade even though I'll never add the second AC. I can pretty much run everything at one time in my trailer including the AC and Microwave.

Unless you already have it, You will not regret upgrading to a MaxFan or similar bath fan upgraded. The

Also we upgraded our WDH to a ProPride. Expensive but worth it. Every penny.

As far as cameras, I finally found a wireless camera that actually is dependable. It is the Furrion Observation camera. Again, expensive but wow. what a difference.

We've done little upgrades here and there. Be sure to check the upgrades section of the forum. We have some really ingenious people on this forum.

50 amp is interesting to me and I may need to check that out when we talk turkey tomorrow at the dealer.

We currently have a MaxFan and use it a ton. But, I was told that it's no longer an option from Crossroads. In fact, there are very few options available from the factory. I could have that added by the dealer, but I'd prefer the factory cut the holes in the roof

I like the idea of the camera and will likely buy one. I like knowing what's going on around me so I have a TPMS system as well.

To clarify, the 50 amp is a factory option, you really cannot add it on at the dealer. Being in Indiana, you may be hard pressed to find a 50 amp since it is more common in the south (hotter weather =need for second AC).

Also, pulling the factory fan and upgrading is pretty easy. no cutting. Just need a couple hours and dry weather. I've done three of the them.

I also have the TireMinder TPMS. Good kit, but I also got caps for the truck to better monitor pressure and temperature and they sometimes get interference from the factory TPMS.

An an unrelated topic. I noticed on my last trip my transmission temp was running about 201 on pretty much flat ground. I could have sworn that last year it would run 195-199 most of the time, rarely over 200. Do you know where your tranny temp normally runs when your pulling your trailer?

I'm always in that range. Could be a variety of factors. Wouldn't be concerned.

We have the SS26 and it came with 50 amp service even though it only had one A/C. It is prewired for a second unit already. One thing I did was add a heat outlet in the bathroom. I did that myself. Also, the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 self levelling system has been fantastic, so far.

1. Can you walk between the end of the bed and the wall? (wife doesn't want to crawl over me )

2. Can you open the bathroom door without first putting the large slide out?

3. Can you open the main fridge without first putting the slide out? (for loading)

4. Is there an electrical outlet on the counter next to the stove (in the slide out)?

5. Did you get an iCool mattress or the 'flintstone hard' mattress included?

I'm considering having the second AC unit added to the bedroom but can't decide if it's needed. We aren't big AC users, but we currently have a MaxFan in the bedroom that we like.

It seems the 'included' features change frequently, so it's a bit challenging getting solid info from our dealer. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if something you have in your unit is slightly different when we get ours in 6 weeks or so.

Thanks

Sorry. I don't have your specific trailer. Maybe someone can chime in

Only recommendation is if you can squeeze through to the bath when the slide is in, be careful not to step/ walk on the slide. Big No No.

Sorry Mark, I meant that reply for Delillo. I should have been more specific.

Good to know about the slides since I've never owned a trailer with one, I have a lot to learn.

#1. Yes.
#2. No
#3. No. You can open the kitchen slide a little. Although the refer door has room to open with slides closed, ther is no way to get to it without climbing
#4. Yes. There are also two outlets on eigher side of the island
#5. We have the standard mattress

So far, we love this unit. The kitchen area and storage are what sold my wife on it.

Being in New Mexico (hotter than Indiana), do you think there is a need for a second AC in the bedroom?

thanks Nick.

If/when we get a new rig, it will have two AC's. Just no sense to not do it.
After spending that much money to begin with, that little extra for the second AC is pretty minimal.

I personally like the extra light in the bedroom coming in through vent cap. I'm torn to adding the second AC. It's about $600 for the unit. I'd prob try to do it myself.

Mikenannie,

No, not really. So far ir is fine with one, granted it isnt middle of summer yet. We normally camp in Colorado and even in summer, when the sun goes down, so does the temp. I understand the record hign temp overnight in Albuquerque is 76, so that gives you an idea.
