Counter Top Durability

I am in the middle of our first real weekend camping in our Sunset Reserve and noticed the counter tops seem to scratch VERY easily!!! Last night my wife put a small plastic jug with some water in it on the island counter. This morning we noticed scratch marks where it was sitting!!!! Has anyone else experienced this??? If so, what did you do to stop it from happening in the future???

A product we use in ours is Gel Gloss. It's made for solid surface countertops. We seal them with it once a year and it seems to work well. Our last home had corian / solid surface countertops and that is what we used on them to take out scratches and protect them. We went with granite in the house this time because the solid surface scratch too easily. Don't mind it in the trailer but our black countertops show fingerprints really bad.

And it is available in Canada. Just couldn't find the link.

Reviving an old post if mine....

Does anyone know what the counter tops are made of in the Sunset Trail Reserve??? I called our dealer and he told me it was either Coran or Quartz but neither seems right to me. Thanks for the help!!!

My 13 Cruiser counter top is made by LG. Similar to Corian

It's nomenclature is "solid surface", but also can be called cultured granite or cultured quartz (which it isn't). It is basically a polymeric resin composite - most commonly acrylic and polyester. It's easily moldable, formed (its poured) and repairable.

Got it?

Now, the most common name people use is Corian by DuPont but that is just one of many brands. The LG Hi-Macs acrylic solid surface has been used in many of of our RVs.

What else you want to know?

Wow....thanks for the info, that's great!!! Any insight on how to stop it from scratching so easily??? The wife put a plastic water container on the island kitchen and it scratched the counter!! Not deeply and it can be buffed out but I am trying to find something that can toughen it up

I do not get scratches on my LG counter top. So I'm not sure what you have installed in your Rv. In my package of manuals there was one for the LG counter top. Check and see if you have a counter top manual.

Nope - it's crap for that. I put it in our last house and when I redid the countertops in our current home I went with real granite.

But, Gel Gloss helps. You don't put it on regularly or it will build up a film but it does help. Spray it on. Leave it for a minute and buff it out. Once yearly.

Here's some more info.

Good info. Our solid-surface counter is also scratching up quickly...

I spoke with Crossroads this morning and was basically told this is a known issue with no real solution other than to be careful with the countertops. In the end, I guess we will just use cutting boards and those padded dish cloths.

As long as it does not delaminate, this is a camper and even with scratches, I love my large counter top, in my previous Forest River pop up it all delaminated when it got wet, so glad not to have this problem.
