CrossRoads Slide Issues

2012 CrossRoads Sunset Trail 26BH. Schwintek (Sic) Worm Gear Slide, 8' long 3' wide. In my opinion to large for the slide drive system

Slide never really worked well, dealer said "the trailer is not level when you are operating the slide". It got to the point that my boys would either pull or push on the slide to assist it going in or out.

2nd last camping trip as the slide was going out, I heard it jump a gear, after that it was very hard to get in or out.

Took it into a different dealer for estimate. Talked to the dealer today he said "this is not the 1st one he has seen with the same problem". CrossRoads and the dealers and Schwintek all default to the same statement, "trailer is not level when operating the slide", when people have looked for some sort of compensation. He also said that he has seen the trailer camber (bow) where the slide fits (the hole in the wall) and then it will not be fixable at all

So now the slide parts will be in excess of $1600.00 and labour is on top of that. Estimate $3000.00 on a trailer that currently has a resale value/trade in of less than $15,000.00, but is worth nothing with a slide that will not operate.

As the parts are basically a "custom" fit for each unit it will be at least 4 weeks for parts to arrive in Calgary. This is the 1st week of September, by the time we get the trailer back it is likely to be snowing.

NOT impressed with Crossroads, we have had axel issues, 3000lb axels (2) on a trailer that has a dry weight of 6800lbs, tire issues, C-rated tires which I believe were also under-rated for the trailer weight (2 blow outs), we are on our 3rd tonge jack, as the 1st 2 were under rated, and now the slide, these are the major items with lots of small
issues that I managed to fix, no support from CrossRoads or the dealer.

Build super cheap, super sloppy, super lazy, sell to the customer and tell them it is their fault, problem or issue when problems arise.

I hear you about the axles...probably 3500 # like mine. Had them replaced with 4400# ones by crossroads as bothe were bent right from the start and they put 4400# springs on as well as I was bottoming out the tires on the wheel wells. Hit the scales and was 600# under weight. My unit weighed 5850 dry. All happened with i the first 3 weeks of a sunmmer trip when new so warranty ....just replaced c rated tires with endurance d rated ...what a difference. Goodluck.

I hear you too about axles. I replaced my rear one as it bent on a trip to Yellowstone. 2 3500 lb axles on a camper with a GVW of 7912. Go figure!! Luckily no issues on slide but it’s not a schwintek.

Correct , a 4400# axle unit is really a 5200# axle ( bigger than 3500)with brake assembly from a 3500 thus making it 4400#

Had an alignment shop bend castor & camber in my 7k axles for $125 per axle which they reimbursed me as it was still under warranty.
