ok . 6700 kms on new unit and rear axle lost it's crown and straightened out ,wheels on an angle and wearing on the inside . Maiden voyage ....not impressed.
3500 lb axles x 2 = 7000 lbs . Stopped at a scale and loaded weight on axles was 6600lbs ...too close to max not including bouncing on rough roads . Springs are flat across on all 4 ..think my 25rb reserve needed 5200 lb axles from the start .Talked to a dealer out in nfld (where I am now)and he said he has had to replace axles on new units that were just shipped to him from Indiana , before they were even sold ......what gives??

My axles had to be upgraded. Looks like crossroads failed to save money ,by sending them out with axles that are too light, then having to replace them .

But if they make it out of warranty it's somebody else's problem.

If your within 400lbs of max grossweight for your trailer, the fact the axle is now strait and your springs have no arch sounds normal.
I looked up your model and 7000 at the wheels and 722 at the hitch is right at your GVWRof 7722.
The axle is properly rated for your trailer. try reducing your load. Once you add people to that trailer you may be over on GVWR

I hate to be contradictory, but in my opinion, your axles are never suppose to straighten out flat. That curve is suppose to be there. Plus if the springs flatten out--- that indicates to me the whole suspension system was under built.

If this dealers statement is correct then that would indicate to me Crossroads knows there is an issue with the axles. The dealer is not going to just swap axles out on a trailer he justreceived in inventorywithout Crossroads paying for it.

Not trying to be a jerk, I am just stating that the axles on that trailer meet the Manufactures ratings for that trailer. After all, what determines the GVWR of a trailer if not the suspension? Why would you travel at max GVWR? not only does this use more gas, but it leave no room for anyone to use the trailer once you reach your destination. if your maxed out before you ever arrive how do you add water, where does the gray and black go? you will surely overload your trailer. Now none of this takes in account that the axles or suspension may be misslabled and can not actually hold the loads the trailer requires. However why do we think the manufacture shoud over engineer everything because we cant stay within limits?

Just MHO, Again not trying to start anything, just stating an opinion

Cw3jason...the axles may be labelled for 3500# each but that doesn't mean they are actually capable of carrying that load. I replaced the bent crappy Lippert axles soon after we purchased our 29ss with 3500# axles from a local trailer shop. While the rating was the same, the wall thickness and tube diameter were considerably greater in the replacement axles. The number of posts regarding bent Lippert axles on his site speaks to their substandard construction. Also, GVWR is a dynamic rating for a moving vehicle and does not apply to trailer weight when parked. Adding people won't exceed the GVWR.

I doubt you paid much attention to axle crown when the unit was empty, so it is possible that what you see now is not much different than when the unit was empty. And given the weights provided, upgrading to larger axles is probably not the right answer as they will result in a very stiff ride for your weight with too much bounce and damage to the trailer and contents. On the other hand, there are plenty of owners that have had tire problems related to out-of-alignment axles and many have been adjusted under warranty with tires also replaced under warranty. I suggest you talk with your dealer about getting this resolved under warranty. Point out the springs as well, they might be the right capacity but wrong length for your spring hangers.

8iron,
Thank you for the clarification on dynamic rating,I was assuming it was static and dynamic.I have read several post of faulty axles and some that were not even rated for the trailer they were on. Wrong axles installed at factory. In this case it does seem the factory installed the correct or correctly labled axles. I do agree with you and others, that lipperts axles may not actually stand up to what they are rated at. Seems Lippert may be over rating their axles some.

As a follow up , just got a call from lippert and they are sending me 2 new axles (5200 lb but with a smaller diameter ,to fit my brakes, thus being a 4400 lb axle) and new springs as they stated that the 3500 was not a good fit with the wide stance set up. apparently all 2014 come with this set up now .....nice to be the guinea pig. and I still have about 4000 kms left to get home .

and I am not over loaded as to stuff , Its just 2 daughters and me with the stuff usually brought for camping.
thx for all the replys

Harley my 2014 290QB has 3500 lb axles and has a GVWR of 7664 lb. So to me mine are under rated as well. Seems ridiculous to build them without a safety margin. And I can see how traveling with a normal load and full tanks you can easily reach GVWR. Not that I do this or plan to, but any trailer should be capable of handling a normal amount of gear and water based on the sleeping capacity. I mean why sell a trailer than can sleep 10 if you can't put 10 on it with normal luggage.

How did you get Lippert to send new axles without a fight? Just call and say my axles are bending and underrated?

Can anyone else confirm that all 2014 ST trailers are coming with 4400# axles now?? if true do we have a case under warranty to get our 3500lbs upgraded? The discussions around these axles on this forum not only this thread but many others is very confusing and concerning IMHO !

I emailed Crossroads 2 weeks ago when this thread started and have yet to get a response. Gotta luv it when customer service ignores your requests right after buying a new high dollar product. Gives you a warm fuzzy feeling...in the pit of your stomach like your gonna throw up. Glad I bought an extended warranty.

RoadDog66, they seem to be very hit or miss on responding to customers and warranty work. Some have good luck and some don't. From the outside it appears the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. One of these days this will all catch up to them.....

FWIW, we're not alone. My Dad just got through replacing broken and flattened springs on his Jayco. Of course, Less than a year outside of his 2 year warranty...

Same problem here with our 2012 25RB. Rear axle is flattened out and wearing the rear tires on the inside. I contacted the dealer where I bought it ( Terrytown In Grand Rapids Michigan ) I live in Nova Scotia Canada. He tells me the warranty is only 1 year on the axles, and out of warranty. How can they only cover the axles for 1 year on a 2 year warranty unit? I'm going to contact crossroads directly to see if I can get some satisfaction.

The frame and axles use to be covered for 2 years from Lippert but they lowered it to 1 year a couple of years ago.

Guess its cheaper to lower warranty period than stand behind your product.
