Fridge problems

Hello all, I have a 2013 Sunset Trail 31BH and the fridge will not work on propane. I recently had the unit in at the dealership and they informed me that they needed to clean the burner and all is good.

The burner is lit however the fridge does not get cold when on auto or propane setting?

I have a 3500 watt generator but for dry camping I prefer to run the unit on propane.

Has anyone else had any issues where there fridge runs when plugged in to power but not on propane?

Thanks for any help.

I have a 270BH. When I switch to propane after having been on electric for a while, the light on the fridge blinks as if there is a problem. But hours later into my ride the fridge is still working fine aside from the blinking light. So my issue isn't the same as yours but I thought I mention it anyway.

Does the fridge cool at all on propane? or just not cool enough?. If it cools a little but not enough, it could be the thermister or sensor board. Unplug the thermister from the board and see if it cools (white twin lead plug). Unplugging the thermister places the unit into max cold mode.

Just in case you are not familiar with the "thermistor"
That is the little out fit that's clipped onto the fins in the fridge that you can slide up or down to fine tune the temp. Just below the freezer.
Mine went bad a couple years ago and the fridge wasn't cooling properly.
If that is the problem, it's a quick easy fix.

The fridge doesn't get cold at all when on propane? Funny that it works on 110?

You may want to make sure that its getting propane. Mine did the same thing and I found that the valve on the 30lb tanks was causing the trouble. I switched the valve from being in the middle to one side only. problem solved

I might be wrong, but I always thought the valve between the two tanks should be turned sideways, not up.
You turn it to point at the tank you are using out of (that tank turned on of course) then you open the valve on the other tank and it will automatically switch over when the first one runs out.

Check to be sure the little gas valve behind the fridge is on,if you have one . If there is not one , you may have 2 wires running to an electric shut off..check them

Thanks for all the help, I checked the propane selector valve and it is definitely pointed at the right bottle.

Here is a picture of the set up. I am assuming it has an electric shut off?

Ended up taking the trailer to the dealership. The mechanic checked the propane flow and it was good, he then noticed that the flame was lit but seemed weak. He pulled the burner and cleaned the orifice, a little brake clean and some air and he re-installed the burner and the fridge is working again on propane. I'm good to go!!

Ok similar problems tonight prepping for weekend trip. I turned on the gas, set fridge to Auto and in 3 hrs the freezer was ice cold, but the fridge was still completely warm. The fins weren't even cold to the touch. It worked fine 2 weeks ago. Any ideas?

Road dog...That is unusual. Obviously the fridge cooling system is working. It sounds like some kind of blockage in the coolant cooling tubes. It's so strange that a call to a specialist might yield an obvious answer.

Well i left the gas on up to the lake (I know it's a bad thing to do) but the fridge cooled as usual. I don't recall it taking more than 3 hrs to cool the fridge down any time we've camped, but I could be wrong. Does anyone know if these are designed to cool freezer first the main fridge area?

I always turn the fridge on a day or two before we leave on a trip. If things are not working after 24 hours, then I think there would be a problem.

On mine the freezer always cools before the fridge. I never timed it though -- usually just turn it on several days before leaving. I remember the tech at my dealer telling me the freezer always cools before the fridge. He also mentioned that it's very important the unit is level, otherwise the fridge/freezer wouldn't work properly.

If you turn switch off for about 5 seconds and back on,light should stop blinking. Mine did the same thing. I hope this helps.
