We just bought a 2011 Sunset Trail Reserve and took it out for it's first camping trip with our family this July. The paint on the front of the trailer (hitch side) looks awful! The top coat is totally gone and now the beautiful brown color is fading and beginning to crack. Is anyone else having this problem?

The top of our 2011 front cap is starting to fade...look into Vertiglas Gel Coat Restoration system. (Vertiglas.com). Boaters have been dealing with this issue for decades and a system like this brings back the color and luster with relatively little effort.

Your trailer should still be under the factory warranty. Take it back to your dealer and have them fix it.

They won't help us because we are not the original owners... We bought it used.

Along 8iron's theme with Vertglas, take a look at Poliglow. Same concept but highly recommended by a service manager of a RV dealer I talked to in Galveston. Said he spent many years at marinas in Florida and Poliglow was the best product for fiberglass he'd used. I had my trailer buffed with a product called Rejex at the Texas Rally and am monitoring how it holds up. If it's dull by the time I pick up the trailer from storage for our fall trip I'm going to Poliglow it.

Would appreciate feedback whichever way you decide to go.Edited by: coastn

Glad to see your message below. I have a 2012 sunset trail reserve that has spent 6 of the last 12 months in inside storage and is already showing huge paint fade. Makes me wonder if camping world really waxed it like I paid them for. It clearly must be a paint defect and I am planning to contact both camping world and Crossroads ASAP.

After getting the run around from both the trailer dealership and paint companies, we just bought the Poliglow. It took a lot of hard work to get the oxidization off, but after applying the final steps of the Poliglow, it looked new again. There were still cracks in the paint, but the plastic seemed to seal them well. We ended up selling the trailer due to the size of the bed, so we won't have to worry about it anymore. We told the new owner what we had done and suggested that he keep up with the Poliglow every year.

I too took the time to polish and wax the front cap...3hours with a power buffer and it looks good as new.

What kind of ladders are you guys using to get to the whole front end cap? Are you leaning any type of ladder against the front end cap to get to certain parts of it, using A frame ladders? I'm a little nervous on how to exactly get to the whole thing especially if I use a power buffer.

We used a "Little Giant" a-frame ladder (exandable and foldable ladder) but had to lean a hand against the trailer to get up around the top curve. We also had to use the harder scrub version of the Poliglow to get right through the oxidization and down to the brown color.
