Hello all,
Does anyone have a suggestion for a inverter generator that will power my entire unit, be quiet and is reliable? We normally just plug in at RV resorts but I'm thinking we'd like to go off the beaten path sometime and a generator would be a must.

I like the Champions. I have a 3500 watt propane unit, no longer made. It has the 30 Amp TT outlet for an RV. If I had to buy one today, I'd buy the 3000 watt inverter from them. Probably without the remote control. If you have two ACs, and need 50 amps, Champion also has a 5000 watt propane model with a 50 amp RV outlet. Many people sell Champions; CW, Amazon, and (I like) ATG Stores. Free delivery and put on my Lowes card.

Gcross, define quiet. I have a Westinghouse WH7000EC, enuf power to run both AC units. Running it kicks out about 68 dbs, but I try not to run it in the dead of night unless I absolutely have to or the there is no one within miles of me.

We have the Yamaha 2000. It will not run the air but you have more then enough power for everything else. Depending on the load on the inverter it runs very quiet. Just keeping your battery charged up its hardly louder then regular conversation.

I was going to purchase the Honda EU3000IS because a friend of mine has one and it is quite and powerful enough to support most RV's using 30amps. I ended up with the Honda EU3000I Handi. It is only 85lbs vs. the 130lbs for the EU3000IS. I have the ST26RB and the Honda Handi is more than enough power to handle the load. The Handi version is quite pricey but also one of the more quieter units on the market. I also like the large flip over handle and the large wheels. With the lighter weight, I can load and unload this on my own without help from the wife. Also like the econo-mode feature to save on gas when the AC is not running.

Define "power entire unit". How may Air Conditioners do you have, appliances, etc. You need to total the needed watts. Start with number of AC units, the fridge, lights, etc. If you have 2 AC units, a 3K won't be able to run both units at the same time.

I have the Sunset Trail ST26RB which has 1 AC unit, fridge, lights, water heater, electric fireplace. I have run the AC, fridge, lights, tv and satellite system off of the generator at the same time with no problems at all. However to your point, if the water heater (on electric mode) and electric fireplace were also running, they would draw too much power and I would start popping fuses. I always have the water heater running on propane and quite honsetly, I rarely use the electric fireplace and wouldn't on a generator. That being said, you are correct. Any 3000w generator would NOT be enough to power the AC, water heater(on electric), fireplace, lights, and fridge all running at the same time. If I am dry camping and running off of the generator, AC, fridge and lights are basically most of what I need and a 3000w gen does just fine for that. If I ever get to the point where I want to be able to run everything possible on my TT and own power plant, I might consider a EU7000I but that would be too expensive, too big, and too heavy to load and unload.

Take a look at Costco's Smart One 2200 Watt Inverter. I got mine for $550. Yamaha engine. Check You tube out "Smart One"

Wow! Just saw that at Costo.com. Two of those with the parallel cable and you got 4000W for $1300. What a good deal if the quality is there and noise is low as advertised at 51 db.

This is exactly what I would be doing. When I say "Power the entire unit" I didn't mean all at once. I understand that the load at that point would be excessive. Mainly I'm looking to be able to run the air, tv, pump and some lights. I can put the fridge and water heater both on gas if need be. I as well do not run the electric fireplace very often and wouldn't on generator power.
As for how quiet? We only have 1 event that we currently would have others near us and still require a generator. That's Toadlick Music Festival in Dothan, Alabama. They have lots of "primitive" camping sites; no power, no sewer, just water, and this would be the only time I'd like to run it and not keep the neighbors up all night. The rest of the time, I would be practically by myself.

We have this one also and it powers just about everything. The only combination we tripped it on was the AC and electric water heater simultaneously, otherwise Micro and AC and TV worked fine.

How would I plug in a generator? During the walk-through the service department warned against using the adapter in the kit to run the AC. Is there a more suitable adapter for using a generator or does it plug in somewhere else?

That would depend on your make and model. Can't tell from here.

I pickup up an adapter that changes the camper plug to what my genny uses at Home Depot. Gennie must be close to 30 Amp to run everything in camper but 20 might work as long as you dont run everything at once.
