Roof Maintenance

We have a 2007 ST29RL which does not have a roof ladder, which I believe means I shouldn't be walking on the roof. I want to do my roof maintenance but am unsure how to manage the logistics of getting to the roof openings.

I have an eight foot painters plank and was wondering if I laid it down length-wise would that distribute the weight over a number of cross beams to be safe? Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I was just up there on my new 289QB installing some vent covers and simply used large pieces of thick cardboard to help distribute my weight. I was also crawling as I didn't feel confident in walking around on it.

Most use a 2X4 chunk of plywood to distribute the weight between a couple rafters. I would think two of them would be required so you can move from one spot to another.
