Sunset Trail owners

Are all of the Sunset Trail owners doing nothing?? We haven't been out for a month or more.
We dry camped out in the dessert for one day & overnight, now we just spend a night on the farm every once in awhile. We are hoping to go to Arizona and Utah in Feb.

Last trip out was in early August for the Factory Rally. We were hoping to get out again, but finally winterized back in October . Waiting for April. If the kids don't get a lot of snow days off from school, we'll probably take off a week for Spring Break and go somewhere like we did this past spring.

We went to Disney in Orlando Fl over Thanksgiving Break. Pulled the Sunset Trail down I-75... 400+ miles. Stayed in Fort Wilderness Campground at Disney. Awesome campground. Great trip!

Also took the SST up to Illinois on a hunting trip in early November, so my SST has logged about 2000 miles in the month of November.

And, just made my reservations for Spring Break in the Smokey Mountains.

Still loving my camper!

Last day out was Oct. 6th at the State Park in your hometown of Fruita. This was at the end of a 5 week trip to Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington and back thru Idaho. 5300 miles. No problems. Great trip! Was kinda bittersweet though, as the last thing we did that last morning at Fruita was (here's that dreaded word) winterize. Trailer's now stored under a layer of snow in Fairplay. Already thinking about Arizona early next year as I'm just in from shoveling snow and it's 5 degrees above.

Russ I thought you had Joyce trained for all of that snow removal stuff. Make certain that she get around the Sunset Trail so you can get away quick By the way like your new picture.

You're right, Joyceis fully trained however she left early for a shopping trip in Denver. It was only 2" of "champagne powder" anyway...took about 20 minutes and one Abita. The ST's another story being as it's 25 miles away but ata lower elevation and pretty easy to get out. Doesn't snow a whole lot in Fairplay...when it does it's pretty windy and blows away.



Glad you like the picture...it's always a good reminder that warm weather eventually returns to the High Country and camping's not bad in my driveway.

That Fruita campground is about 3 miles from the farm. It looks like a nice spot, but we have never stayed there. Maybe we'll get over there one of these days!!!!!!!

I used mine 2 weeks ago for bow hunting and will have it back out this week for muzzleloading [24* weather predicted here in Michigan.]

It's our favorite campground around. Always stay there heading out or coming home. It's only 200 miles. Great for de-winterizing (see, I'm already thinking about that) or the reverse. You're not parked next to someone else like you were at St. David (probably). We checked out that campground early last April and decided to go on to a place outside of Tombstone. It was nearly deserted as the snowbirds were leaving daily. Had a whole section to ourselves with no neighbors. Intended to stay 3 nights, stayed a week. Probably go back this next spring.

At St. David we were next to people, but had a good time anyway. Our friends from Oregon were there so it worked out OK. I did notice that other campground where not filled up and that was in Feb. 2008.
The Picaho State Park on the way to Tuscon was a great park and had few people staying. I would like to spent afew days at that park in the future. The spelling on this park may not be correct.

I see there are quite a few 30BH owners who pull with a 1/2 ton truck. I owned a RAM 1500 with a HEMI and I was told it would do fine. Going up hills was slow and steady. After only a few trips my tranny started slipping, so I upgraded to diesel power. Are you guys satisfied pulling with a 1/2 ton? Or am I an isolated case.

I used to tow with a Durango with 5.7 Hemi tow rated at 8,300 lbs., probably the same engine as your RAM.Here in the mountains, like you, it was slow and steady uphill..55 MPH in 2nd, 3,800 RPM. Could have gone faster but manual said not to rev above 4,000 in 2nd. Wasn't really happy with the performance on hills so started looking around. In March, found a new '08 Tudra which the dealer discounted considerably to move it. Also 5.7 liter engine but with 50 more horses, 6 speeds, 4.30 rear end which gives it a tow rating of 10,300 lbs. Much improvement. I'm now in 3rd or 4th passing the semi's on hills instead of falling in line with them. On level pavement I loaf along at 65 MPH, 1,800 RPM. Do deisels towing 5ers pass me on hills? Sure, but I'm o.k. with that. Don't use the truck for muchother than towing the trailer and hauling the occasional aspen tree for planting. Quite satisfied overall.

Don't really know fer sure. Would guess not. I get 11-12 on a good day, 9 uphill or headwind.

Your doing a little better than me, mine's a 4x4 and I will see 10.5 on level on a good day been down to 7.8 in winter with a headwind headed south. I can hold 62 on cruise no matter where I have been from Maine to Florida.

Actually, seeing the picture in your signature of your truck towing the Zinger influenced me quite a lot in the decision to buy the Tundra. Thanks for that!

I'm a newbie here and noticed that you are located in Washington.We live in Belfair, WA. Tomorrow, weareputting in an order fora Sunset Trail UL ST27FB10 travel trailer from Wana RV in Indiana. We fell in love with this unit after reading about it in the November issue of Trailer Life. While doing research for our purchase, I noticed that very few dealers sell this product in Washington & Oregon. Where did you purchase your unit? Where do you take your unit for servicing? Can't wait to get our TT!
