Equalizer hitch gets great marks in my book!
I have now owned two different travel trailers. The first was wood framed and weighed around 6500 lbs. My new one is a Sunset Trail ST30BH aluminum framed with fiberglass sides, ultra lite model, it weighs around 5400 lbs. When I purchased my first TT the dealer sold me a Reese Pro Series 10,000 pound hitch with the brake style sway control bar. When I upgraded campers, I just kept the Reese hitch. The Reese has worked okay on both campers, but strong winds and big trucks beside me made me uncomfortable. With the help of these forums, I decided to upgrade my hitch to the Equal-i-zer brand. I have just returned home from my maiden voyage with the new hitch, here is my opinion:
I love the new hitch. The trip up interstate 515 in GA was windy, and I hardly noticed the “push. I was passed by a panel truck, a big wrecker, and another fifth-wheel camper on the trip and experienced minimal sway or that sucking feeling of having my camper pulled towards the other vehicles passing me. My Reese hitch was sturdy, but it didn’t resist trailer sway as effectively.
I tow with a F-150 Supercrew 4x4. I am extremely pleased with the performance of the new hitch. I think all I need now are some aftermarket helper springs to stiffen up the truck and I will be completely happy.
I know you will read on these forums that Equalizer hitches are noisy & squeaky hitches, but honestly, it wasn’t any worse than my “groaning Reese has been for the last few years. Before I purchased I spoke to Equalizer INC sales/tech staff and they said “When towing, Groaning is GOOD!
The hitch was easy to setup up on the truck. It is very quick to hook up compared to the Reese. I would make the change again with NO reservations.
I look forward to many safe trips with my new Equalizer. I purchased from

Happy Camping!
