Trailer Brakes on 33BD

I'm looking for input from other Sunset Reserve owners, especially anyone with a 33BD on how good their trailer brakes are. I can put the actuator settings to the maximum (3 different tow vehicles) and the trailer brakes seem to just barely engage. If I'm sitting on flat ground, holding the actuator lever all the way on, my Tundra will pull the trailer forward at idle. I took it back to the selling dealer and they say all is well and the the brakes are "self learning"? Never heard of that before. Anyway, before I drag it 260+ miles back to the selling dealer, just want to see if anyone else has this problem. Thanks! Robb

Has anyone ever looked inside the brakes to see if the hubs were over greased and/or condensation rusted up/crudded up the brakes so that they don't work very well ?.

Just because it is new doesn't mean that it didn't get grease in the brakes.

I agree with DRCOOK. Pull a wheel or two and examine them. Could also be they just need adjusting.

The brakes can be adjusted too. It says on the manual to do it every three months or so. On the inside portion of the drum there is a slot to do the adjustments. Id go with that first. Lippert has a how to video on it as well. My Opinion anyway.

I agree with all the previous posts.
You could have grease on the brake shoes caused by leaking seals, or it could be something as simple as adjusting the brakes.

The video I'm have reservations on his 5 click back off. For myself, that is way to tight. I usually go about 12 clicks. With my brakes set that way, when I set the controller by hand, I can't move the trailer.

I'm not telling you what or how to do it---just stating what I do.

Just as a reference point. On my trailer if sitting still if I set the trailer brakes full on the trailer tires are locked. The truck will move the trailer but the tires aren't turning, they are locked. I've never adjusted them.
