window replacement

My husband and I are feeling very discouraged. Back in November, we had our brand new 2013 Sunset Trail reserve travel trailer vandalized along with several other units in our storage area. We had not one but two windows broken. The door window and the small window on the kitchen slide. The dummies weren't smart enough to know it was a slide so they thought they could break the window and reach in and unlock the door. Discovering they couldn't do that, they broke the window in the door. Anyway, we have waited all this time for Crossroads to send our windows. They finally came in last week. When we went to pick up the unit, the door window was fine but the kitchen slide window was smaller thus leaving a gap in the graphic design that used to come all the way to the window molding. We pointed it out to the repair person and they, at first, didn't know what we were talking about! Gee whiz, they have dozens of rvs on their lot and it was obvious this wasn't right. Needless to say, we aren't sure who to be upset with. Did the repair place order the wrong window, did Crossroads try and pass off a cheaper replacement? I e-mailed Crossroads this morning with our story. We have stayed in the camper only one night. This is our retirement rv. We bought it brand new so we could start out with something nice and new. I hope we get it fixed right by spring!

the repair place could have cut back the striping as it may have been siliconed. thus not ripping the stripe as they took the window out. That would make it look like he window is too small just a thought....

The window itself actually looks smaller and the molding looks narrower than the original window.

I would not rely on an email. I would call Crossroads directly to inquire about your problem. Others on the forum had success doing it this way.

What happened to the original window? Just take it to a local glass shop and have them cut safety glass to fit it and then reinstall it. That is what my dealer did last time I had a broken window.

update

Update, we finally heard back from the repair shop. They contacted Crossroads and they admitted they had sent the wrong window. Supposedly, the correct window is being shipped. I'm still amazed that we had to point this out to the repair shop.

Good news. Sounds like CR is definitely customer oriented these days. Thanks for updating us.

Thats great news. I find myself looking over my camper for atleast a half hour to an hour making sure everything is fix currently. It's sad that we have to do this, but I rather make sure it's done right before I leave the dealer. I am happy to see CW stepping up, would of been better if they did it right the first time, but better than it was.

I wish I could figure out how to insert pictures. I would like to show everyone the shoddy work the dealer did.

How to add photos to a post
  • Click reply and scroll down to bottom of text box.
  • Click "go advanced" add text to message window and then scroll down.
  • Click "Manage attachments" A separate window will pop up.
  • Click "browse" Then select the file to be uploaded. Be sure that the photo is appropriately sized. 800 x 600 pixels (or smaller) and no more than 400K is recommeneded. Forums software will automatically reduce the size, but smaller size photos will upload much faster. You may select several photos to upload at the same time by repeating the last step.
  • Click "Upload" After pics have loaded close the pop-up window
  • Click "submit reply" to mount the text of your message - photos will automatically appear at the bottom of your post.

Here are the photos of the windows. Please notice the space around the newly installed window (image #2) between the window and the graphics. Please notice the difference in the existing windows (Images #1 and #3). I can't believe we had to point this out to the repair shop. I know I'm picky but this is a brand new unit that has been camped in one night. Thanks Lloyd for the tips on downloading photos. Jill

That gap would bother the heck out of me as well so don't feel bad about . We all paid alot of money for these units so they deserve to be fixed properly, especially when new enough to be under warranty.

Just an update to our window problem. We got the correct door window from crossroads, but we haven't received the correct kitchen slide window. Evidently, they have sent two windows and neither one of them is correct. I called and spoke with Crossroads this morning. They claim that they sent the correct window, but it isn't right. See photos above. The person told me that they can't be sure which window to send based merely on the VIN number. Evidently, there is some white writing on the window. I'm hoping someone on this forum has a 2013 Sunset Trail Reserve 26RB and can give me the information off of the kitchen slide window. I'm so frustrated!! This has been going on since before Thanksgiving last year.

I think you should get the numbers off your own window, not some other window. You would have a better chance of it being correct that way.

The numbers on the existing window won’t guarantee anything. A new rear (very large) replacement window was ordered for my 2010 Kingston and apparently the numbers don’t denote the frame color. My windows have a white frame and the newly installed window came in a black frame. I instructed the dealer to try again we paid too much for these campers to have a repair that is less than perfect.
