Fresh Water Tank.. WATER???

OK, I have another mystery for your fellow PP. My fresh water tank which has NEVER had water put in the tank from the normal application, all the sudden has 2/3 water in it? I opened the drain valve and out come very cold water, but I have never put water in our tank. Any suggestions of where and how this could have got in the tank? I am considering opening the valve and keep it open so as not to collect anymore water, or just check the smart lights and drain when it tells me I have water in there.



I have no intentions or use for the tank, as I have never used our fw tank on this one or our Cruiser.

Keith, that is really weird.....You sure you don't have a water fairy adding water to your tank? We use our tank 3 or 4 times a year when we go to some friends farm but I always drain it when we get home and it stays empty. You sure it wasn't left over from the dealer testing the water system before you bought it?

This is the second time this has happended, and the first time I did account for the dealership putting some in the tank for show. But the second time I have NEVER put water in the FW tank. Very odd.. It did look old and cloudy, but very cold water. Maybe the first drain did not get it all, and the way it was sitting registered on the guage. No I am unware of any check valve to FW tank. Sorry.



Oh yea I also blew the fuse's to the converter box this trip. Hooked the battery up backwards, (my fault). It takes 35 amp fuses which I found Buss does not make. So I have to find them. I replaced them with 30 for now.



Every trip is an adventure.



Glass company ordered correct size for my back window and the wrong size was shipped. Been 3 months to replace back glass. Ugh. Glad the temp fix is working well.

I guess the next time you take a trip and have it hooked up to city water open the drain valve on the fresh water tank and see if anything comes out. I don't see how water from the city hookup could possibly get into the fresh water holding tank but maybe someone hooked something up wrong. Is there anyway rain water might be getting around the cap draining into the tank? Just throwing things out there at this point.

I think its the check valve allowing water to by-pass the pump

I will have to check next time I'm hooked up to water. Otherwise I can imagine how water could get in the tank. Thanks for the advice, and I will check it next time out.

If the check valve is stuck open, I think that water would have to be forced backwards thru the pump to fill up the tank. Other than the large, exterior fill port, there is only one line to the fresh water tank and it connects directly to the 12V pump.

Dumb question? You said the tank indicated 2/3 full. When you drained it did you get 2/3 of a tank. Mine would take more than 1/2 hour to drain 2/3 of a tank. I have found the tank will not completely darin when the trailer is level. If I drain level then have the left rear corner lower than the rest of the trailer I can get about another 10 gallons more to drain.

There have been cases of enough water back feeding through a faulty check valve in the 12V pump that it causes water to flow out of the filler. It just takes a grain of sand or a small bit of plastic to cause your valve in the pump to leak. Since you don't normally use the pump, after you have sanitized the fresh water tank with bleach you may want to see if the pump holds pressure or cycles. If it cycles, then there is a good chance your check valve in the pump is leaking.

On the CF29RK the check valve is in the pump you can put one in the line just after the pump and that may help.

If the pump has never been used, just cycling it a few times may clear up the problem, followed by occasional operation every few months.

Only time I run my pump is to winterize (oh no, not that bad word). Agree might have to run it a few times to keep it working during summer months.
