Is it crayfish or crawfish? Is there some lore about their tails and the weather?

Not doubting Frank. Just curious what the crawdads (what I grew up calling them) do that predicts the weather change.

When we were young growing up on the farm we called them Crawdad's, Later we called them crawfish. My new spell checker changes it to crayfish more than likely a California thing. Like all good southerners Crawfish hate the cold, and will not start to stir out of their burrows until they feel some warmth. Granddad use to go to the creek bed and check for their burrow holes, When he thought there was enough of them out he would go ahead and start planting. Seem all ways to work well for him. The exception was when there was thunder in January than he would wait until after the April Freeze. I suppose we could start a whole section on Granddad Izums

Any time you want to lay some of that Granddad Izums wisdom on us I'll be more than willing to listen...We have lost to much of that kind of wisdom in this country...
