Hey all,

I recently got a Coleman RoadTrip Pro SS Grill for my birthday. Now I want to reconfigure it to work off my TT's LP propane system. As far as I've read on the internet, aside from some 'questionable' DIY type fixes, there's no easy way to do this. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience doing this - I really want to use this grill, but don't want to buy the stupid little propane bottles, or tap of the HP end of my propane system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers...

I have a lower model of this grill, and went to my local hardware store and bought a hose that hooks up to a regular propane bottle. I just leave it hooked to one of the bottles in my propane compartment, and drop it down through the vent when I want to hook it up. Gives about 6 or 8 feet of slack so I can fold up the grill and slide it under the trailer when not in use without disconnecting the hose. We have got a lot of use out of ours, the only things I can complain about are limited grill space/low ceiling height, and somewhat uneven heat. But it works good enough that we have not changed it out in nearly 150 nights camped!

I also have the lower end model and a new weber q that I use a similar method. I bring a spare 20-lb tank and hook a propane tree up to the tank that has 3-outlets, then add a hose to each item I want to connect and flame on....

I have the LXE version of the grill. It has a 1 lb bottle connection to the regulator, and then the regulator connects to the grill with what appears to me to be a nonstandard fitting.

Since the TT LP connection is post regulator (low pressure), connecting that to the high side of the grill regulator won't work. So, it would have to be connected to the nonstandard connection on the grill which I don't know how to do.

You might be able to saw off the regulator and attach flare connectior to the raw pipe, but that's out of my area of expertise. (KA BOOM)

There is a kit to tap into the high side at the LP tank and attach a hose to the high side of the grill. That's probably the best way to make a somewhat permanent connection, but the kit is around 60 dollars.

Or, just give up and buy the little bottles like I do.

Save yourself the trouble and purchase either a 5lb, 10lb or 20lb tank from your local propane store. I have a 5lb connected to a grill hose connected to my WeberQ.I wish I would have went with the 10lb as it's almost the same size at the 5lb. I think the total cost for the whole system with a full tank about $40 and it's much more portable than a direct connect.

Thanks everybody. I know the issues with connecting a HP grill to the LP propane system. Just thought I could make it easy on myself, since my trailer has a LP quick connect at the rear. I think I'll buy the tee and connect a hose to my propane bottles.

I had a similar situation with a different grill. I removed the hose and regulator from the grill and attached a new hose with quick connect end, then added a quick connect and shut off valve to the end of the black pipe on the camper. Now I can be set up and ready to grill in no time. If I ever need to use the grill away from the camper, I will have to re-install the original hose with the regulator. The hardware was not cheap, though. I spent almost as much for all of the brass connectors and adapters as you would for the splitter/hose kit for tapping into the HP end by the tanks. I was just trying to avoid carrying an extra tank.

I love my Roadtrip Grill, only used the stove in the trailer once in 4 years. I put a Tee with a quick connect between the bottle and the feed for the regulator. Screw a hose to the tee and the other end into the grill regulator. No expensive small cans of propane, no extra canister to worry about rolling around in the trailer, only 2 large tanks that I need to keep filled.I use the Teed tank as secondary so I always have adequate gas. Although there is a fitting out now that you can use to fill the small cans from a large tank.....saw it at Camping World.

I seem to recall reading something about traveling with those "refilled" small cans is illegal. Not sure how they could tell, but I guess you could use that setup once you got to the camp site and fill the tank as you need it.
