Dealer Communication

We've had our unit since April. Been in the shop twice for leaks on the wardrobe slide, this is the small slide. First go-round they had it for almost two weeks. No updates during the repair until pickup notification. Second repair was for re-doing the first repair. The mechanic cut the bulb seal at the top right too short and water was leaking down the vertical seal. Almost 2 weeks and was just informed today it is ready for pickup. During these two weeks there was no communication from the dealer. We purchased from this dealer, brand new. This is a significant purchase and the dealers need to understand this. If you have our unit, a phone call once a week would be greatly appreciated so we know what is happening. Just venting....Thanks.

Welcome to RV'ing. Your experience is typical. The worst part of the whole activity is dealing with dealers who just don't give a d**n about the customer and manufacturers who refuse to hold the dealers, who are the manufacturers' face and voice, accountable for poor behavior and poor business practices. Once you are past the purchase and warranty nightmare, it is the most fun and relaxing time you can have. Hang in there and enjoy.

x2,

RV ownership requires you to reset your expectations on customer service. It's basic supply and demand. More poorly constructed RVs on the road than dealership service bays. All brands. All types. Except Airstream.

And even Airstream is not what it used to be. I toured several models at an RV Show last spring and found some of the fit and finishes to be lacking..... particularly with the HUGE MSRP's.

I follow two owner's boards. This one, and one of the type I used to own. Far and away, the headaches and longest delays come from slides. They are the Achilles Heel of the RV industry. People demand the open floor space, but the mechanics, seals, and other hardware are frail, and stretched beyond limits when loaded, or placed on uneven ground. (BTW, I checked, and the Airstreams do not offer slides) We don't stay in a place long enough to spread out; we chose one without slides to make arrival and departure easier. After reading these sad stories, I'm glad we did.
