Northern Alberta fires

Like the rest of Canada (and maybe the U.S.?) we are watching stories and video footage of the wildfires in Northern Alberta. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from Fort McMurray.

In watching the videos of lines of vehicles on the highway heading out of danger, we see the odd RV. I cannot help but think these people are luckier than the others - they have a place to stay anywhere, and they can bring a lot more of their prized possessions, as well as their pets.

Does anyone have any stories to share about the evacuation, either with or without RVs?

We are in Eastern Ontario and well away from this, although we are heading to Alaska next month.

I saw a Zinger in one video, was wondering if it was anyone from the forum?

We had our share of disastrous fires last year in California. I hope that all of those folks in Canada can get back to normal very soon. It's devastating.

I'm hoping that there will be no fires in the NWT this summer. 2 years ago, the only highway in, was closed for long periods. It's going to be dry up here again.

Yes, I have heard about that one. We are keeping a close eye on the situation. We will have a CB radio installed before we head out so we can keep up to date with information, especially in areas where the WiFi and/or cell service is non-existent.
