As you know I have only been camping for the last five years, so I don't have OLD camping pictures, but I have to agree with Parts Guy, sure would like to have that 57 wagon now.

Can't find any of our pics from camping as a kid but Dad lugged a 1970 something 28 ft coachman all over pretty much the eastern half of the US with a 77 ford club wagon, a family of 6 and no wdh. Gee, wonder why he hated towing that thing?

I still remember some of the campgrounds we stayed at, one in VA had a zip line into a lake that I was too small to use. I remember staying at a yogi bear campground somewhere in the south as a kid ?yogi in the smokies? We had so much fun with that TT. Dad had it because hotels were too expensive with a family that big. of course, he used to save money by getting 1 room at the hotels and so being the littlest, they always set me up with a sleeping bag in the hotel closet. At least in the coachman I had a bed. It was a neat little quad bunk. You walk in the door at the front to a foldout sofa across the front, stove and small table on drivers side. fridge and small cabinet w/ TV on top on the passenger side. The middle of the TT had bunk beds on both sides with an aisle down the middle. The bathroom was at the back. No slide. It was tight but we were rarely inside it. We woke up, ate breakfast and mom sent us off to play. Came back for lunch and then off to play until dinner. campfire and then bed. He sold the TT around 1983 or 1984. It was infested w/ carpenter ants. A carpenter bought it with plans of gutting it and rebuilding it. I miss those days but they inspired me to do this with my family.

We towed that old Nimrod first with the 57 Chevy using a clamp-on bumper hitch, then with a 1963 VW bus. We went to NCHA (now FCRV) Campventions in KY, MI and PA. Mom and Dad slept on one end. The 4 kids slept on the other end where whe had double bunk cot over the regular bed. My parents swore they would never own a "tin can" trailer. They never did, but now have a Class A with over 100,000 miles on it...and they still RV, but not as far as they used to.

This is my first camper. A 1945 Ford I retrieved out of the junk yard and rebuilt it. A buddy helped me build the topper/camper. I put a piece of 3/4 plywood, hinged in the middle across the front. That's where the wife and I slept. Kids were on foam mattresses on the bed of the truck.
Had a son and daughter at the time. My daughter was pretty young at the time and just delighted in telling "everybody" me and Tim have to sleep on the floor.

I had scanned the two pics together and I didn't try to crop the old stock car out.
