Pets are family

As I wipe the tears trying to type this I am also somewhat relieved. Today we lost A family member. And yes she was family. She was 17 so she had a long life. Her name Gizzmo. She started life hard. We stopped to move a bag that the truck in front of us Had thrown out and there was the cutest little new born puppy the sad part was she was not alone but she was still alive barely. So we buried her brother and sisters and nursed her back to health. God put us on that road and her in our life for a reason. She was our camping buddy always ready to go. But as she got older her health failed and at the end she could no longer see or hear but she always ready to go with her tail wagging.

So now she is in heaven with her doggy family running and playing and in the best of health. As much as we are going to miss her in a way we are relieved that she is at peace.

So till we meet again we love you Gizzmo.

Very touching Dan. My sympathies go out to you.
I went thru about the same thing roughly 35 years ago. As I buried Cho out back, I to was crying like a baby.
That day I vowed to never have to go thru that again with another pet.

God bless you...

A friend sent this to me after we lost our first Aussie a few years ago and it meant a lot to me...

A man and his favorite dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble...At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing towards his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to his dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

It's hard when a pet dies. Yes, they definitely are part of the family. It's always hard to lose a pet you love so much.

We send you our condolences.

Sorry for you lose. Our schnoodle Buddy was 19 1/2 when he past. Was hard to see him go but thankful we had the time together. He absolutely loved camping. We always had an extra folding chair so he could sit in it by the fire. They are a joy. May you find comfort in the memories.

First A very heartfelt thank you to all. Your posts really helped. Now for the current situation. We had 2 dogs - Gizzmo a small Heinze 57 mix and Wishbone a 3 year old Jack Russell. Now we are worried about Wishbone she will not eat or drink. She is missing her buddy very much.

Please excuse my grammar as the more I type the more difficult it is to see the keyboard.

You see as gizzmos eyesight failed wishbone became her seeing eye dog -no pun intended. Gizzmo would bump into the furniture - walls and the door but wishbone started walking beside her and would push - steer - or otherwise "guide" her. If Gizzmo moved Wishbone was always with her even when she went "out" Wishbone would guide her back to the door. She would guide her to the food bowl but would not eat till Gizzmo was done.

Now she is just laying in Gizzmos bed and wont eat or drink. She just lays there. I have seen this once before. When my grandfather passed his 2 Boston terriers did the same thing. Both were gone in two weeks. I know she is missing her best friend but we are praying that she gets better for lack of a better word.

I started this post a while age but the wife just let the cat in and they are both snuggled together. They usually do not like each other. Hopefully this will be the start of a new friendship. I don't speak dog or cat but I would like to believe they are there for each other to comfort each other. Only time will tell.

Well I will close for now and again the wife and Thank You All!

I will put a end to this thread with some good news. The dog started eating this evening. I guess she just needed to grieve also.

I’m so sorry you lost Gizzmo. As dog lovers, we go through this difficult time now and then. It doesn’t seem to get any easier, but having the dogs for their time with us is worth it. I’m happy your second pup began eating and socializing with the cat...

Gizzmo's Last Request
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
Don't let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day, more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stands the test.

We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears.
Would you want me to suffer? So
When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend
Only stay with me to the end,
And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
It is a kindness that you do to me,
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Do not grieve that it should be you
Who must decide this thing to do,
We've been so close, we two these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Sorry for you. Been there and done that. We are all
creatures of God and our hope is we will have a better
hereafter who trust in Him. I cannot but think our
pets are involved here also, my hope and prayer is
that they are.

Sorry for your loss

My heart goes out to you as Teddi is at my side while I read your post. Teddi's mom was rescued off the streets of Houston and gave birth to Teddi. I am looking at Teddi now with a bit more appreciation for the love she brings to our RV and home.
THANK YOU from us both.

That's sad. Hopefully, Gizzmo would be enjoying in heaven. I can understand your feelings as I have also lost my loved cat for a few months ago. Her name was Molly, and she was 11 years old, and one day she started urinating in the mattress and sofa. After researching online, it came into my knowledge that she has urinary incontinence. I acted upon on many bits of help for cat's urinary incontinence, including vet's medicine, but they didn't work. After 2 months of this health issue, she left us.

She was just a baby for me as I raised him for years. It becomes me heartbroken when I remember her last days that's was very tough for my poor Molly. I can understand your pain.
