portable induction cook top

Does anybody use them when camping? If so, what do you think of them?
What brand is the favorite? Double or single unit?

portable induction cook top

Bought one a few years ago. Indispensable when cooking indoors. Requires pans with ferrous in the base.

Bought the Max Burton 6000 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop

I paid 78 bucks on Amazon but now they are almost double that.

Oh. Yay. Single burner model. Make sure if u go double your outlets can handle it.

I think on the double burners they have it set so you can't exceed the 1800 watts when using both burners.

Hi Lloyd,

As newbie RVer's, we discovered to our horror that cooking over naked flames in our RV not only heated the food but also instantly raised the temperature inside Harvey.

Not much fun in FL where the trick is to keep it cool.

Now boiling water for tea or coffee is addressed with an electric kettle, a single burner induction cooktop and assorted cookware handles most of the cooking with the microwave taking up the slack.

Ours is a 'NuWave' from Walmart, cost under $100 and came with a saucepan and skillet. Had it about three years, wouldn't be without it.

I'm seriously looking at removing the OE oven (which has never been lit) and three burner cooktop to gain more counter surface, and maybe search for a portable double burner induction top.

The space I gain where the oven is will become a deep drawer for the new induction unit and it's associated cookware, plus space for a slow cooker and the kettle.

And dearly beloved will have another two feet of countertop when everything is stowed.

Hi John
Sounds like you have the right idea for the cooking arrangements.
We've never used the oven in our camper either. They seem to be a pain in the butt for a lot of folks. Plus like you stated, all the excess heat generated in the camper.
It's rare that we cook inside. Between the heat from the cook top and the roar of the exhaust fan it gets to a person.
Most everything is cooked outside. Either on the camp stove, or over the fire.
I have been thinking that one of those induction cook tops would be a nice addition. I'm having trouble deciding which one to get.

I'm surprised that only you and Mark have responded to this thread. Thought for sure there would be more of them out there being used.

We use a Duxtop induction cooktop. Really works well. With Techef cookware. Also my favorite, cast iron fry pan.

We have a Nu-Wave induction also, and use it for all the same reasons as already stated..I use to boil water on my roadtrip grill but found if it was even a little windy the grill could not do the job, but the induction could...FYI if you are going to boil corn on the cob best to start with hotest water you can to get a jump start...

If your looking for someone that could do something wrong that would screw up something drastically enough to burn water...... I'm your huckleberry...

We use one; Copper Chef brand single unit. I don't know a lot about the brand. It was on sale on QVC and works great.
