Well for those of you in the Mason Dixon Group that met my dog, Maddie, I have sad news. We came home to her very out of sorts tonight. She had some sort of neurological event leading us to believe her cancer spread to her brain. She suddenly could not stand and was very confused and many other things were just wrong. We took her to the emergency vet who basically confirmed our fears. Maddie's time had come. She passed away peacefully with all of her family there for her.

She was my best friend. She was my 5 yr old DD's best friend. She was my DH's baby. She never left my side. She was a sweet loving dog who loved to play and cuddle. she was a 70lb lap dog! Her anxiety got the best of her but she was so good that we were able to train her through it.She was kind and patient with my daughter poking and prodding her early on and would play tug of war gently enough that my DD would never get hurt. We will all miss her terribly. Now the TT and the house will be very empty for awhile. May she rest in peace. We love you Maddie! Thanks for letting me vent.

So sorry to hear about your loss. They bring so much joy, but such a heartbreak when they go to the rainbow bridge.

So sad, sorry for your loss. She looks just like my 'Jake', who exemplefies all the qualities you mentioned! Thank you for sharing ...

Very sorry for your loss, they are such great companions and one of life's joys to treasure for the time that they can be with us. Remember the good times and take comfort that the suffering was brief.

Sorry to hear, I know what your going through and it sucks. We had to put our 8 year old chocolate lab down a couple years ago because of cancer.

Thank you for the kind words. We buried her today and DD is coming terms with it in her own 5 yr old way. There is nothing easy about this but it is done and when we are ready we will move on. In the meantime, our beautiful Maddie has a nice resting spot near some trees and near (but not too close) to a little stream. It is peaceful and in eyesight of the house.

I can feel your pain. I went thru it many years ago. It hurt so bad at that time I haven't been able to get another dog. Don't want to go thru that again.

Aileen,
So sorry for your loss...I know what you are going through, I had my rescue dog Annie for just shy of 17 years...she died in my arms and it still hurts to think about it...almost a year ago now and it still pains me to think of it. And like Lloyd, I felt such pain I am fearful of getting another one. My wife thinks I need one badly but I'm gunshy at this point, the pain was just too much...akin to losing a child...that's how I felt. My prayers and sympathy are with you at this time.

Jim

Thanks guys. I miss her but am coping. DD is coping better every day. As hard as losing a pet iis, the love they give is worth every minute of anguish. Someone sent me the last will and testament of a dog. In it, it is clearly stated that the dog is at peace and it would pain the dog to know it causes you that much pain.I have had many animals in my life. I've had dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish and even horses. I learned the circle of life early. I made the decision on putting an cat down when I was in middle school and same for my horse in high school. i have had to make it several times since. It never gets any easier but I am a big believer that giving the gift of peace is the ultimate gift of love. We will have another dog when the time is right but losing Maddie hurt bad. Probably because she was the first fur baby DH and I got together and probably because I watched DD's heart break into a million pieces. As DD has gotten better, I have gotten better. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers, they ave really helped us.

A Dog's Last Wull and Testament
Before humand die they leave a last will and Testament, leaving their house and all they have to those who they left behind.
If with my paws I could do this is I would ask.
To the poor lonely stray I give my happy home, my bowel, amd cosey bed, soft pillow and all of my toys that I love so much. The hand that stroked my fur and the sweet voice that spoke my name,
I will to that sad and scared shelter dog the place I had in my humans heart of which there seem to be no bounds.
So when I die please do not say " I will never have a pet again, for the loss and the pain is more than I can stand." Istead go find an unloved dog one's who life has held no joy or no hope and give him my place to him. This is the only thing I can give...The love I left behind....

thanks, we are planning on adopting another dog when the campingseason is over. It is too hard to train a puppy or young dog when camping, so we are waiting until we have settled our lives for a few months to allow for our new family member to settle in.
