Where are you?
I am in Columbus, Georgia, about 95 miles south/soutwest of Atlanta. Right on the state line, so I can see across the river into Alabama from my office window at work.

My daughter just moved to Athens and she said everything came to a haul there. Having moved from Blacksburg, it was quite a change to see that nothing could be done. At least here kids were not stuck at school.

So we got about an inch at home and about 4 inches in Durham. I was out driving my neighbors mom. They were stuck at work and she needed to go to the ER for a respiratory issue. So into trusty Big Red we go and out into the impending snow storm. By the time we got there the roads were covered by the time we left there was 4" on the truck (in approx 3 1/2 hrs). Drove home on snowy icy roads. No problem except for the idiots thinking 50 mph is smart in those conditions. Saw a few of them spun out in the ditch. Schools closed today and tomorrow.

Actually though the funniest thing was when I got home, I backed the truck in the driveway and parked it. My driveway has a downhill toward the house. We got out and were standing on the sidewalk discussing plans for today when the truck started sliding down the driveway. Read sliding not rolling. It slid about a foot, foot and a half towards the garage. I was worried it would keep sliding and hit either the garage or DHs new camaro. Luckily it stopped, I was able to get in after it stopped and pull it forward into the court and on to level ground. Funny now but new pants time then.

Well, the "south" has taken a lot of ribbing about how things shut down with just a couple of inches of snow. But, we don't have the equipment to clear. Plus, it's not really the snow but the ice that was (and is) the issue. My neighborhood streets had 1/8 to 1/4 inch of ice yesterday morning. No way I was going to try to drive on that. I would think that without studded tires or chains it would be unwise to attempt it. This morning it is better, but still reports of icy conditions, so I am not trying to get to work until later when it warms up. It is 13F at my house, which is most unusual for this area.

Yes Tim...This is "The Beast" ! http://www.iveco.com.au/index.php/on...range/dual-cab A bit wierd.... especially as I use to go to work - but with a 18,000lb+ Gross Combination Mass... it is one of the only vehicles over here to be able to tow a decent size fifth wheeler.
How did you get your camper down there? Did they ship the campers down under or did you ship it yourself?

Between two and three ft. of snow on the ground. Plus it's snowing now with another 4 to 9 in. expected. Good thing is, it helps insulate the ground so the frost doesn't penetrate so deep, and the added moisture is always a welcome thing for our ground water/water table, and all the little ponds and lakes in the area.

I'm really trying to stay positive with all this.

I'm staying positive.

I'm positive you can have all that stuff you want. While the moisture content would be welcome I would prefer it in the liquid form. Temperature tomorrow forecasted to be in the 70's.....

diwilliams,
My cousin, Jack Wisenall, who lives in Columbus, sent me a photo a month ago, tagged 70 degrees here, when we had 5" snow...now he [and you are paying for his humor].
Any thoughts on joining the Gulf Coast gang at Poches in Feb.20-23 weekend?
We will travel from frigid PA to meet that group.

Seabee, not this year, maybe I can do something next year. Hoping to retire the end of March so should have time to do more camping! By the way, I take it from your "handle" that you were in the seabee's? I almost was but ended up as an Engineering Duty Officer instead, fixing ships instead of building roads and runways.

I have to agree with you. Better to have the snow, it will melt at some point. Texas could and has had the same trouble as Calif. NO WATER. I'll take the snow.

Sure, that's why I have 2 AC's on my RV.

When it gets hot out I can;
Put on shorts, lawn chair, cooler of beer, a small electric fan, and sit out and enjoy the great outdoors.

I haven't mastered putting on enough clothes to sit outside in the winter and be able to walk. I spent a year in Korea courtesy of Uncle Sam, never again. Not if I have a choice.
