I was thinking about how much money we spend for fuel during our camping season which usually lasts about 8 to 9 months of the year. If I figured right we have towed our camper almost 3900 miles and get around 12 miles a gallon with an average fuel cost of about $3.85 a gallon. The grand total comes to $1251.25, but this is just an average because our diesel price has ranged from 3.65 to 4.00 dollars a gallon around central Illinois. I didn't think that was too bad, I thought it would be a lot higher.

I bet my alcohol and food costs for the year is a lot higher then that.

I think were close to 4000 miles so far this year, I spent over $1500 on fuel already. almost half of that was just on our trip to the factory rally (but we did detour through PA to get to there). But that $1500 would include some driving without the trailer while at our destinations.
I try not to think too much about those numbers... it hurts too much.
Also, if I counted how much was spent on beer, DW would not be impressed!

I can't ever remember us adding up what a trip cost. We spend whatever it takes to get there and back and whatever else it cost for the trip. I keep the fuel receipts just in case I had issues with poor fuel quality but we never add them up. We just go and don't worry about it.

What's your fuel expense for a camping season
Too damn much!
Couldn't resist. Pretty much the same answer as Hunter11, I just know we gotta go, so we go.

I had to chuckle. Driving big diesel pu's pulling nice 5th wheel trailers kinda reminds me of the Ferrari salesman when he was asked about the gas mileage of a particular model, "If you have to ask you can't afford the car"

If you gonna play, you gotta pay....We did a 3-month East coast trip from May thru July thru 15 states visiting family and sightseeing. Not cheap, but well worth it and much cheaper than flying and staying in motels, plus we had our own "stuff" to enjoy. Spent63 nights in CG costing $2,819; put 11,706 miles on the truck, (6,673towing the camper) and spent $3,342 on fuel. Similar trip last year and it cost about $1,000 a month for fuel. Since buying a camper three years ago we have been more places and seen more of the country than we have in the previous 25 years, so it was one of our better decisions. And yes, we are spending any inheritance the kids may be expecting.....

Withthe 6.0pulling it's limit in weight...................I don't even think about it. Iknew when we boughtour trailer fuel would be part of the cost of ownership so filler up and hit the road. Now if I can just get the kidsto give up some activities so we can hit the road more often!!!

Our last boat had two 350's and she got about .75mpg. Somewhere around $600 to fill the tank.
I'll take the 12mpg and $120.00 fill ups over that any day.....

I'm with you Captain Mike, camping is a heck of lot cheaper thanboating: our40' w/twin diesels got 1 mpg, cost $2 per foot to dock overnight and you still had to rent a car to do any sightseeing outside the marina.
