Yeti coolers

How many of you guys out there are sporting a Yeti cooler?
I know they are real costly, and was wondering just how many use them.
Plus, for those that have them----are they worth it?

I seen a real huge one out in WA. 2 years ago, and if I remember correctly, the price tag was like $1300.00

I prefer my '70s vintage green steel belt Coleman. I can buy a lot of ice for the difference in price

Buy some r13 2" foam board and tape toghether a rectangular box with hinged lid just a tiny bit bigger than your regular cooler. Insert your cooler and you have a yeti. Probably 40$ worth of foamboard... Redneck but works great.

I have read reviews on some of the knock off Yetties. I do not have any personal experience but from what I have read, all of those of the Yeti design and materials are pretty similar in performance but the off brands are a lot cheaper in price

I received one as a gift, works very well. Keeps everything ice cold on 5lbs of ice for almost 3 days. We take it on every trip. If I were to buy one myself I would buy the knock off brand that is identical to the Yeti for less money. Just my 2 cents.

High Density foam coolers that Omaha meat orders are shipped in are the best I've ever had. I wrap the exterior with duct tape for durability. The contents outlast those in my Coleman green steel belt cooler, which up to now has been awesome.

I can’t justify the cost. My Coleman extremes do quite well now at a lot less cost.

I have a Yeti and I love it. I had a lot of gift cards to Bass Pro so the cooler only cost me about $50 cash.

Last October we were just about to leave for a 10 day trip and when our fridges stopped working and didn’t have time to bring it by the dealership for warranty fix. We Ice chest camped with the Yeti. It worked great with some dry ice to start out the trip and just a little ice the second half of the trip.

I was very impressed by how well it kept cold but I would not have one without all the gift cards.

I have a coleman extreme, works pretty well. Definitely better than the $25 cheapos.
I recently bought a cooler box that is powered by 12v or 110ac for around $200, but haven't tried it out yet, other than in the house after purchase. It stayed at 41 degrees empty.
I usually take along my countertop ice maker, that does just under a pound of ice in an hour to top off coolers, and for beverages. If the coolers don't need it, it goes in a ziplock in the freezer for later.
I like gizmos and gadgets, but I can't bring myself to pay $400 or more for a cooler, and I doubt that you will find someone who did telling you its not awesome, even if its not.

I received one as a retirement gift. It definitely works well. I took it to my high school reunion Saturday. I left it in the back of my pickup until Monday. I brought it inside. There was still ice in it on Wednesday.

There are a couple knockoff brands out there that tested just as well. I’m a fan of RTIC products.

About 1/3 less than Yeti.

My old Coleman steel belted cooler works jut as well though. Dry ice keeps food frozen for 3 days no problem. Just heavy.

Take a look at the RTIC brand. They are about half the price and perform almost identically to the Yeti. They come in softsides, 20, 40, 45 and larger sizes. They are heavy, just like the yeti's, so before you go buy a monster cooler to take camping, make sure you can lift it loaded with ice and food. I have the 20 and the 45. Unless I'm going camping for a week or so, I just use the 20 for cold beverages. The 45 is like 36 lbs empty, so definitely a two person lift if it's loaded. Always pre-cool when you can with ice or ice blocks, or even dry ice. Will keep you payload colder longer.

I have a 35 quart and we have a portable ice maker. Rather than take up freezer space. We keep it inside and keep putting ice in it As it makes have been camping for 10 days and not had to by ice.

I'd try the Ozark Trail coolers from Walmart. They are every bit as good as Yeti and are 1/3 the price.

We bought the Walmart lifetime cooler and have been very pleased with the way it keeps things cold. We are using much less ice than before we bought it. I also have a countertop ice maker that I put in baggies & use for drinks & coolers. Makes ice quickly!

Canyon Coolers.Variety of sizes, gets GREAT reviews, we love ours! Plus, I like the design better, where the sides are smooth with the latches set in rather than sticking out. Another bonus is that the latches are easy to use, no worries about arthritic hands having problems with those Yeti rubber stretchy things.

I have a Yeti Tundra that I've had for years (before it was cool) and have found that with any of the coolers it all helps if the cooler is cooled beforehand like the instructions recommended. If I use it when while hot straight out of the garage, ice doesn't last. Waste a bag of ice to cool it really makes a difference.
