We will be installing a 5er hitch soon. This will be our first one. I'm hearing that the front of the 5er ought to be a little bit lower than the rear of the 5er. I've heard about an inch to an inch and a half lower in front.

For those of you who have some experience/understanding of the logic of this I'd sure like to hear from you so I can understand it.

Thanks in advance for your time and attention.

I have always read and been told that as close to level is best. You do not want to be down too much in front or back as either way puts too much weight on that particular area. Look at the picture of my rig in my signature.

I have been told again told. 6-8" (about 2 closed stacked fists) clearance between bed rails and bottom of trailer. Trailer as close to level as possible.

Its better to have the clearance and the nose a little high than a level trailer and bent top rail. My camper rides maybe an inch or two high in front, but has enough weight on the pin and pulls ok. I guess I have 8 inches between the camper and the rails and could lower it maybe an inch. But I'm fine with it as is.

If you check with the hitch installer/rv dealer, they should be able to tell you for sure. My 5er is about level and for 30,000 miles seem to ride ok.

I've been told by people that I believe know what they are talking about and I trust, pull level as possible, nose high more weight on rear axle, nose low more weight on front axle, pull level weight even on both. Talk to a manat our local city park campground (This has been2 yrs ago)who had justcome from the Cat scales, F-350, 36' Montana fifth wheel , about 4" nose high, rear axle almost 500 lbs heavier than front. He showed me the paper work. Still hard for me to understand.

I have to believe that level is best; too much on the front will change the pin weight; too much in the rear will put more strain on the axels.
