Advise on Surge Protector

Going to the Good Sam's/Camping World Rally in Atlanta this month. They had recommended using a surge protector in there literature . I have a 2013 Cruiser Aire CFL 28 with 30 amp service. Any recomendations on a good all around surge protector that would be best fo me. Any advise would be appreciated. I beleive they may be using the large generators at some of the temp. camping sites. The rally is hosted at The Atlanta Speedway.

Wish we would of signed up for the "Louisiana Hot Rally" sounds like alot of fun, but were obligated for now.Edited by: HCFR34

I have a camping buddy that has a 30AMP surge protector he bought at Camping World, he might want to sell. He bought a new camper last year, and it has 50AMP service. I think he wants to sell the 30AMP protector. I just happen to be camping with him and his wife as I write this. I will walk next door and make him aware of your post.

With these new units I highly recommend you use a surge protector of some sort. Hard wired are usually the best as you don't have to worry about locking it up to the pole to keep it from being stolen. Definitely a must if you are running off of generator power (even if it is an inverter generator)its always a good idea.

A lot of us have installed the Progressive Industries one for our 50 amp service but it is also available for 30 amp. I like the ability to turn it off (which still leaves you protected) but I found a couple times at home it would give me a ground fault when I was only running it on a 15 amp outlet.

I use a device I bought from Frank's Electronics. It functions as a surge protector but also as a 2-step autotransformer. If campsite voltage gets too lowthe device will boost voltage accordingly and has a hi/low voltage automatic shutoff that will cutoff power to your camper if need be. It also checks for polarity issues, open neutral and ground faults at the pedestal.

They supply 30 and 50 amp service units thatprovide70, 100 amp protectiondepending upon your rig. It's pricey but you get a lot more than just surge protection.

Bob I believe that unit still provides surge protection in the off position. I does not provide high and low line protection or overload within the RV.

his switch is located on the remote panel, and allows the user to bypass the computer circuit in the EMS in the event of computer failure, thus allowing AC power into the RV. Thisdoes notdisable the surge protection portion of the EMS; however, all other features are disabled.

Thanks! - - - I have used the ON/OFF switch to bypass the low voltage protection when I had my 4000 watt Yamaha generator connected to the RV. Sometimes the voltage regulator is slow to respond - probably should have it checked out or replace the voltage regulator.
