Aftermarket Slide Awnings

Question for the group, does anyone have experience with slideout awnings installed as an aftermarket item? I believe there is certainly value in adding the awnings, but I am nervous about drilling into the side of the trailer as a potential for water leaks. Any experience/advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve

My last trailer had 2 slide awnings and when the insurance company totaled it for water damage, I pulled off those awnings. Since my current trailer did not have one, I put one of those on it. I did have to take off the cap and cut off a few inches of the tube and the fabric because of the difference in slide size. I rivited the cap back on and it works perfectly. I used the putty tape behind the awning rail and caulk around the brackets which screw to the slide
