I have a early 2011 Cruiser 30ES with a Atwood 6 gal. elect/gas water heater. It does not have an anode rod. The 5er I had before had one in the heater but I can't remember the brand. Is it necessary in the Atwood, if so, why didn't it come with one? Should I install one? Does it depend on what material the tank is made of?
Thanks for the info.

I have never had a camper with the anode rod and have had the same Atwood heater in the other campers. So I would think it dosen't matter. My 2 cents

Annode rods are used in tanks that are made of galvanized steel to prevent rust. If your tank is aluminum there is no need for the annode rod.

Your Atwood WH tank is made of aluminum and doesn't require a sacrificial anode.

To All,

Thanks for the replies, that's what I thought but wasn't sure.

It used to be that the Suburban water heaters required the anode rod. The Atwoods don't because of the material the tank is made of.
