We just bought a ST31BH with both a electric/gas hot water heater. This may be a stupid question but would i here anthing if the tank was on electric? When I throw the switch for gas, I can hear the pilot light then the ingiton of the gas. When I have the switch on electric, I hear nothing. Our last trailer had a gas heater, so I'm just not sure if i'm doing something wrong or that's the way it's suppose to be.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

My trailer has the hot water heater (10 gallon tank) with electric too - running electric only - you will not know when it cycles on and off.
What I do:
I run with both on - I think gas gives quicker recover and the electric maintains the water temp so I should be using less propane.

I generally only use the electric as it is cheaper than gas. Takes a little longer to heat up, but with a ten gallon tank, the wife and I can take a shower, one after the other, and have never run out of hot water. I normally turn it on in the morning, then off after showers til the next day. Water stays fairly hot til bedtime.

I leave the electric on. Then switch on the gas too just before I use the shower. Then switch it off when I'm finished. The electric will keep it heated but the gas will keep you from running out of hot water. Maybe I take to many long showers.

Leave it on when you are hooked up to power, as long as you have water in there.

Ditto on nothing with electric. Also, you can cycle much faster with both on...sometimes we turn both on in morning to help turnaround on showers.

I turn mine on an off when we are at our snowbird park in the winter and paying for the electricity. If I am not paying for the electric then I leave it on.

We always use electric unlessboon-docking. I figure I've paid for the electricity at the campgrounds so why should I use my expensive propane.

We do not leave ours on when our trailer is at home unless we're going to use it for something and of course never leave it on when the tank is empty like over the winter.
