Atwood gas/electric hot water heater

Have a Atwood gas/electric hot water heater that has recently stopped working when in electric mode. No problem getting hot water when using propane. Any ideas on where to start to figure out what is wrong on the electric side?
Thanks.

Check the electric heating element for continuity.

I had the same problem. It turns out the element was fine. The circuit breaker for the hot water heater was defective. The service center at Camping World that handled the repair told me it was the third case of the same defective circuit breaker they fixed in the last 6 months.

Had the same problem. They replaced our control panel then the circuit breaker and nothing worked. We ended up finding some poorly connected wires.

electric on water heater

We had a bad heating element on the water heater.
There is no such thing as a Hot Water Heater. If the water is hot, no need to heat it.

Where is element?

I am having the same problem. Unfortunately, I am a not a plumber and am also a DIY’er. Can anyone tell me how to access the heating element?

The electric element is on the back side of the heater. You should be able to access it from the inside behind a panel, in the area where the winter bypass valves are located.

Found it...but...

Found the element, but the wiring was burnt up. Unfortunately, this is beyond my skill set. Anyone know what could’ve caused this? Talk about tight places for a big guy!

Check the relay in the box in the back where the 120 volts wire gets in and also all the connections

Have seen this in house water heaters. When the electric element shorts outs it draws ALOT of current and can overload the wiring BEFORE the breaker trips. It probably won't be too expensive to replace the wires and element and see it that is all that is wrong. Many times it is,

Thanks! I have the extended Good Sam warranty and am working with a mobile tech to come out and check it out. Likely it is the element, but I want to make sure my family is completely safe.
