Bad Battery

If you always camp on shore power does it matter if you have a battery that doesn't hold much of a charge on its own? Will it overwork the battery charger or something?

A bad battery will cause all kinds of problems. replace it. If completely dead, your slides will not work proper. Can also cause un due strain on some of the wiring .

Yes your charger will always be trying to recharge the battery but more importantly your battery is needed to power emergency brake a way system.

A bad battery will overwork the convertor and cause pre-mature failure and that failure can have many different forms. Failure at a very bad time, undervoltage, even worse overvoltage, and the worst, a fire. As the old adage states, "you can pay now or pay more later".

I depend on a strong battery when running the tongue jack up and down. At those times I am not on shore power and the truck is not running.
