I am being offered a free "bed extender" or "bed step" as a result of another purchase. The bed extender is a U shaped device that sits on the lowered tailgate and spans the width of the bed. It's purpose is to keep items in the bed from falling out even with the tailgate lowered. Is this unit usable with a 5th wheel? I am skeptical, but would like opinions. The other option is an assist step to get up into the bed. Any opinions appreciated!!! This link shows the extender and the bed step.
I would suggest that you forget about using a bed extender when you are towing your 5vr. While it may be fine when towing in a straight line, once you make any sharp turn and that only has to be at a city intersection, you risk the trailer and tailgate of your truck hitting and causing damage to both.
The bed step is a different issue. It should be ok because I believe thatit can be retracted when not in use.
Pick the bed step.

Either of the two can be very helpful for the vehicle. For the bed extender per Ce, try to use the brand load latch and other brands out there in order to really get things done for your needs in that one. For the bed step, there are also a lot of brands out there. In this way, you have many choices in order to what to use.
