I am thinking of buying a A/C for the bedroom. Cost is not a factor but do not know if I need 15000 BTU. For those who have two A/C's what is in the bedroom.

Thanks for your input
george

George, our bedroom AC is a 13.5K and doing 95% of our camping in the hot Texas Summers it and the main 15k unit will cool the trailer to below 70* on a 95* plus day if we wanted to. Now if the price difference between a 13.5K and a 15K was a couple hundred dollars (which I bet it is pretty close) I would get the 15K. Both our units are ducted.

Our front ac is 13.5k ducted, and the rear is 15k. No problems cooling the trailer down, and temps were in the upper 90s a few days. One thing I noticed is the front ac (slim model) is close to twice as loud as the rear. And when pulgged in to 30 amp, it would not cool the air with both units running. 50 amp no problem.

The one thing we had done was a Auto Switch installed for the front AC unit. When we have a 50 amp hookup both units work off the 50 amp circuit. When we are at a park with only 30 amp and need both AC units we run the rear AC off the 30 amp and we have a plug in the utility compartment that I can run the front AC off the 20 amp plug on the power pedestal with a 20 amp 25' extension cord. The switch automatically takes the front AC off the 50 amp circuit so it can run on the 20 amp and when we get to the next park that has 50 amp it automatically switches it back to the 50 amp circuit. Sounds complicated but it is really not and works great.

Where is all this located? I mean do you have 2 power plug ins at the back, or is the switched one in the front storage?

The Auto Switch or Transfer switch is mounted in the storage area by the central vacuum system. It is about 8"X8" square. We have the normal 50 amp plug in at the rear of the trailer and in the utility compartment we have a female plug for the front AC unit when we want to run it on the 20 amp plug that is usually right next to or under the 30 amp at parks that only have a 30 amp hookup. I will look around in the morning and see if I can find a link to the switch I am talking about.

lenny, this is the transfer switch I was talking about. They use them to transfer power between the shore power and generator on Class A's but it works the same way for the front AC unit. You are transerring it from the 50 amp circuit when you don't have 50 amp to the 20 amp service at a 30 amp site. Once you plug into a 50 amp site again it switches the front AC back to the 50 amp circuit.

I have 2 a/c units in my PP, one will not work on really hot days, both units are 15K and both are ducted into the ductwork, works really good, for the price difference between the 13.5k and the 15k I thought may as well get the bigger unit, I would suggest to you if your going to go with a 2nd a/c go with the ducted model the other unit dumps the cold air right over the bed, much better circulation with the ducted unit.......
