We are at an RV campground. This is the first time we have had a sewer dump available on the site where we are camping. I have the flexible hose running from the trailer to the sewer, but I'm wondering if I should have the black water valve open all the time or should I allow it to partially fill the tank and then dump it? It seems to me that waste which hasn't had a chance to break down in the tank would have a higher chance of clogging something.

Sorry about the indelicate subject!!!

Thanks,

Your right. I dump ever 2nd or 3rd day. depends on how many are living in Rig. I leave gray tank closed also but if you use a lot of water that may not workbut, I like to flush the hose with gray water after the black water. Enjoy full hookups are one of the simple pleasures of life.

Pretty much a ditto. I usually leave the gray tanks open, (havewasher/dryer), black tank closed. Close gray tank usually day or morningbefore dumping black, and use gray to help flush sewer hose after dumping black. Dump black approx 3 - 4 days....

x3. I leave my grays open. But dump black every few days. At least wait till its 1/2 full. You are right, it will break down a bit and being 1/2 full will give it more pressure for a better flow.

The reason to leave the black closed is you will end up with a tank full of soilds and no water, so leave it closed and dump as needed and the grey water tank can be left closed and used to flush out the hose.

I

FULLY agree.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /></span>

Our owner’s

manual calls for our tank gates to remain closed until ready to dump. BUT when

it drops below freezing the gray gate remains open and the water in the sink

runs at a slow trickle. Those gray gates stayed open all summer and still work

fine. (Most evenings it fell in to the 40º or below)</span>

Our

black tank level sensors quit giving accurate feedback but there is doubt when

the black tank gets near full as the sound upon flushing is very different.</span>

Our

neighbor let others use his RV for several weeks. The black tank gate was left

open while at the site. Upon his next trip it took much work to break up the

solids and get them through the gate. You don't want that kind of problem.</span>

If you leave the black opened, you'll need a blender, mixer, chisel and hand scraperto break up the solids and every time you go to flush your going to get a sewer odor also.
