I have a 2011 Crossroads Cruiser. On our last trip, about 1000 miles
around Lake Michigan from our hometown of Richfield, WI 53076, error messages on
my Prodigy P2 brake controller began intermittently. The messages indicated a
short or overload condition. When this error message occurred the brakes on the
trailer didn’t activate.

Contacted dealer who said they haveseen where the wires that run through
the axels have worn and causedintermittent shorts as the trailer bounces down
the highway.

Has anyone had this issue, what was your solution?
Thanks

Cut the wires at both ends, run new wires on top of the axle, attach them with zip ties. Connect the new wires to the remaining wires from the brakes.

I had the same problem, but was still under warranty. Took my Cruiser to a trailer place and they said the wires for the brakes rubed inside the drum and shorted. I also lost my brakes and melted the break away swicth wires.

How much would it have cost to put a cheap rubber grommet in each axle hole to protect the wires? Should be considered a safety requirement.
