We picked up a 2011 Sunset Trail Reserve 26BH about a month ago. I noticed when I pulled it home and also yesterday when I took it to the scales that the brakes vibrate or shutter whenever I apply them. It is the brakes on the camper of course, not my truck. I have a Prodigy P2 brake controller that I used with my last camper and also with my utility trailer. Any ideas on what this may be or how to correct it?

Could be that they are just not "worn-in" yet to the contour of the drum.

I was thinking the same. Until I adjusted the brake unit, my rig would shudder on moderate-to-hard braking. I had my trailer brakes adjusted too strong.

This sounds like something you might want to look at or have the dealer look at. I would hate to think something was wrong.

I called the dealer today, they seem to think my brake controller was turned up too high. We are leaving for a camping trip Thursday so I will try to turn it down some and see how it does. We are not going too far so if their is a problem hopefully it will not be a big deal. Double Veteran, it sounds exactly like the problem you had. It is just weird how my last camper would just lock the brakes up. This one is 1200lbs heavier though so that may be the difference. Thanks and I will update when we get back!

I belive the trailer brakes are intended to help slow you down so you can keep control of the stop, they are not intended nor designed to bring you to a dead stop. A good test is to get in a gravel lot, roll a bout 5 mph and slide the manualbar all of the way over. If the tires come to a dead stop andyou drag them they are adjusted to heavy. They need to be adjusted to the point where you can feel the pull to stop but the tires dont lock up. In my humble opinion. Also this also gives you some practice, so to speak, to get the feel and thought into your nogginonwhat one needs to do in an emergancey situation.

My brake drums were warped from the factory. They turned them and they work like they should now.

I had a Prodigy P2 in my Tundra for years and it worked great. My Cummins has a factory brake controller in it. I have heard good things about the P3 as well.

Not sure if this is accurate or not, but my local hitch , trailer shop said the difference between the P2 and P3 is so minimal mainly integration of the boost buttons and cosmetics that it doesn't justify the cost and he both units on his shelf.

I know we found the p3 on ebay for less than $10 differnce from P2. P3 has more bells and whistles as far as diagnostics etc. P3 also has arrow up and down buttons to adjust as opposed to a dial on the P2.
And we did the install ourselves. It was really easy.
