I am planning to add a cargo carrier to the rear of my camper. Currently estimating total weight at under 200 lbs. The 4" square bumper is welded and appears to be more than strong enough. Has anyone had any experience doing this? Thanks, Dick
I have a 2010 CTX29RL and the weight of the spare tire on the bumper caused the welds to start to fail. Had to have the bumpers re-welded, CR picked up the cost. Only about half the width of the bumper was welded to the I-beam frame. Check the installation closely before adding any extra weight.
i didnt trust the bumper to mount anything on. i welded two 2" receiver tubes (one to each frame rail) to the frame. then i made a square tube frame w/ expanded metal (mesh)for the plat forms floor. i've posted pictures here before try and do a search for bike carriers. if you cant find them i'll try to re-post them.
Thanks for the info. Based on the responses I will continue with my current plan to tie the hitch into the frame rails so that the rear bumper is only supporting downward thrust of weight. No twist or torque.
If your trailer is new enough to be in the frame warranty period and you add a reciever hitch it will void your frame warranty. Already been down this road with Lippert. If it is not then the reciever hitch is good option.

I was glad to see on my new CF27RLX (CTX) that there was an integrated 2"receiverhitch already installed for the bike carrier or hitch haul (max 300 lbs capacity) with wire connector for lights.

I carry a Honda 3000is on my bumper and have for over a year.I checked the welds in middle of the summer and all is still good.This is the 4 th bumper I have done this with and not had a problem.My inlaw does the same on a 05 Cruiser and hasn't had a problem.I never put more than 200 puonds on it.If it couldn't hold 200 pounds,I couldn't or shouldn't jump or stand on it.I wouldn't mine having a regular class 5 hitch but don't want to lose the warranty yet.
My bumper is fasten different.My frame is I beam,but the 4 inch bumper is welded totwo pieces of 6 x1.5 inch tubing and the tubing is welded to the frame bottom I beam with two 6 or 8 inch longwelds on each piece of tubing.The bumper is welded to the end of the tubing with two 6 inch welds on each piece and the bottom is open to allow draining I guess.I could see a bumper just welded to the end of the I beam frame not having as much surface to support it giving way.I'll keep and eye on my bumper but it seams to be holding good.
Sounds like my bumper is welded the same as yours. It all appears to be a fairly solid assembly and would most likely be fine to just hang the hitch from the bumper. However, what I am doing is to hang the receiver hitch from the bumper it will extend about 12 inches under the rear of the camper I have welded a cross member to the camper frame rails on each side and to the hitch. This should stop any twisting action on the bumper and has been relatively easy to weld up here at home.
