Ceramic Tile

I bought a ceramic tile to put in the oven. Does it matter which side is facing the flame. Also do use the tile on the bottom rack or do you set the pan on the tile. Thank you

we have a small pizza stone, which we put on the bottom, under the rack.
don't know about which way to put tile in, but I would put it in bottom side down.

IMO, the tile needs to be un-glazed, then insert it face up. Put the tile on the burner pan (solid surface just above the flame), set the pan on the rack just as one would do normally.I have 4----4" un-glazed red clay tile in my oven for several years, they really do help distribute the heat. The other thing I do is rotate the dish at the half way point..

IMO, buy you a Pampered Chef stone, does the same but you can also put food on it.

Can't find un-glazed tile would a slate tile work. If not I guess I will buy a Chef stone. I would like to know if Slate would work.

ThreePutt: as long as it is not pre-finished with any kind of glazing. I had no trouble finding some (a few years ago) at Lowes. I really think any of them would work, I just didn't care for a finished floor tile being in the oven with foodmy family was going to consume. A Pampered Chef (or other brand) stone would work well--but more expensive. Try the slate out a time or two and see if it works.
