Planning a trip to Alaska in summer of 2013. I have seen in some threads recently about holding tanks. I have a 2011 305skp and wondering how well the Black and Grey tanks are secured. I did look at the fresh water tank and beefed that platform up and added straps to keep it from bouncing around. Dont really want to take off the whole underbelly if everyone thinks the tanks are secured well enough. If I do have to remove underbelly, did everyone take off the aluminum strips and do that way or cut fabric and then patch it.
thanks

Yes, definitely take the alum. strips off to remove the membrane. If you cut it you will end up with a mess.
As far as how well the tanks are secured, I can't answer that on your rig.

Not sure about the newer units but my '07 Grey/black tanks have a rib that runs the length of the tank on both sides. As I recall, it sticks out about 1" and is about 1-2" thick (high). This rib sits on a piece of angle iron on both sides. Don't remember if there is any strapping or not in addition to the rib and support. There was no bottom support on mine.

My unit is an 06Cross Terrain and sounds similarly mounted to Stan's.

With a full black tank, the L angle iron supports flipped out and let the black tank drop down on top of the generator exhaust pipe. What a mess as you can imagine!!!

I pulled back the alum strips and underbelly, and put a gusset system between the black and gray tanks to further secure and prevent future problems.

I would not drive very far or on rough terrain with full gray/black tanks.

On my old Jayco they were mounted exactly as Stan described, except the fresh water which was under the sofa.

I read somewhere that straps and supports underneath were not used because of rubbing and chaffing. Don't know whether that's true or not.

We always keep a little in the fresh water tank and always empty B&G tanks when possible.
