cleaning roof vents

We have Max Air covers over our roof vents. Lots of dust settles on the screens. Since we cannot access them from the top, does anyone know how to take the vent down from the inside to clean the screens and remove any bugs, leaves, etc. that settle on the screens?

4 screws to take the inside trim off, 1 screw to remove the crank then take the screen down. There may be a couple of screws holding the screen up, I can't remember.

X2, do it that way all the time for the regular vents, even w/o covers, it is easier than multiple trips on the roof. The fantastic fan screen is different, it has more screws plus some snaps as I recall.

try blowing the dust out with a hair dryer from the inside. Works for me.

Some of the dust is well stuck to the screen. There are also some bugs, etc. I think we need to take them down and give them a good cleaning.

I think it all depends on the model (Fantastic fans or standard vent) on how the screens come out. Like on ours we just have 4 little tabs that can be turned 90 degrees and the screen comes right out, on others they just snap in. The only ones I have had that I have had to take out screws and take apart has been a standard vent with no fan or one with just a small useless fan.

These do appear to have little screws on the sides. We are going to tackle this soon.

Like the 2nd person said...there are 4 screws that hold the cover plate on , then 1 screw to take off crank handle, then 2 recessed screws to take screen off. Simple . plus you can vacuum all the factory sawdust out of there. You can also see how thin the roof mat'l is.
