Cold weather camping

Was wondering what is the coldest you have camped in your travel trailer. We have 3 Boys that play baseball so summers are a little busy to say the least . so we have fall ( if they don't play fall ball ) and winter / early spring to do are camping.

The coldest I've ever camped in was 4 (yes Four) degrees with daytime temps only getting into the mid teens. Of course it was "dry" camping. The only water I had was what I brought in containers. I did have electricity which ran an Eden-Pure Heater and it kept me quite warm. This was during deer season last year.

We have camped down into the lower 30's to the teens in late October when visiting family in South Dakota. We have camped below freezing several times without much problem. If you are prepared for it, it's not that bad. Our first experience we were not totally prepared and had the termination valves freeze up (they were not in the heated underbelly). We went to a local hardware store and bought some heat tape and some pipe insulation and after about half a day they were thawed out enough to pull them open.

We had -12 as our lowest and the cold lasted for a week, never got above 32 degrees for 10 days. Camper never froze up, but the furnace ran pretty much full time. We had heat strips and insulation on the incoming water supply. Also had the black and grey tanks valves closed and drained them each day. Valves never froze up either but we had insulation wrapped around them as well.

W/ SunSet Trail 20*F daytime temps Didn't record night time lows . . .
Of course; no H2O in fresh tank, water-heater or lines.

Repeatedly see -40*F & high winds w/ a different RV Trailer last four winters. Trailer was built for full timing Circus performers; I use it in Oil Fields. Great Dane Trailer has ALL systems inclosed & heated/cooled, except Generator exhaust pipes. Generator has doors/hatches that open during warmer temps when basement doesn't need heated.

Floor was cold. We didn't have an enclosure underneath that time. Now we have skirts on it, which helps with wind and the cold. What gets really cold are the slide outs. Also not having heat or A/C in the bathroom, we had a little cube heater and put a thick blanket on the door to help keep the bathroom warmer. For A/C, just keep the door ajar most of the time.

When we were in Kansas, the Canadian pipeline was going through and there were a lot of pipeline workers in the campground we stayed at. They all had heavy vinyl shirting on their trailers. There was a place in Missouri that custom made the skirts. Very professional looking and has really held up well. It cost around 1200.00 and we can have it on with the slides in or out.

We did this 2 years ago. We only put it on when we are camping for extended periods of time.

Here is Florida, it helps to keep the underneath hidden for storage and keeps the floor cool.

That is very cool. How does it hold up in the wind?

Its all about preperation. You have to make sure your water line is heated and you have to run your furnace. many people make the mistake of running to many electric heaters. I learned this the hard way, waking up in the morning and having frozen water lines. Now I run my furnace more.

Weighted it down with bricks while in Kansas. Here in Florida, the wind isn't a problem.
